How to backup e-mails

Hello everyone,

This might be an easy question but whatever...

I just changed hosting and I was wondering what was the proper way of transferring the e-mails to the new web host?

I tried copying the [email protected] folders and the [email protected] folders, but what happened then is that I was not able to receive any e-mails on the new web host for those addresses, even if they were configured in the Emails Accounts portion of cPanel.

Could it be because I need to first configure the accounts and then transfer the folders? Or is there a better/easier way of doing this?
