How to Backlink a domain with 300+ sites?

Hi there,

I have a new client and he is not the usual 10 - sites - no - location - needed client.
They are buying cars all over the country and for every bigger city they have an own site within the domain.
There is only one office and no branch offices.
As all sites are different, I wonder how to backlink the sites as to the keywords. In Bulk with the kw "car purchase" and trust in the (good) internal linking.
Or backlink every site with "car purchase x-town" and the next "car purchas y-town" -that would be a horrible piece of work and too expensive (I guess) for the client.
Would be happy to read your ideas. Thanks in advance!

so, sub-domains?? Or categories?

does your client want to rank the main site only, or the sub-sites, as well?? You need to answer this question before figuring out which anchors to use and where to point the backlinks to.

that would be the right way, yes. But only if the "own site within the domain" part of your comment means sub-domains. If it means categories you just use "car purchase" and point this to the homepage (or to other important pages of the main site) and if the site is well structured the link juice will flow through to the important pages (sub-sites, so to speak), as well. Although, some local listings and citations will not hurt either, but I would only do it for big cities and / or locations where your client gets customers from, to consolidate / improve the rankings in those locations

You should aim to boost the main domain authority at 1st, this will boost all of the sub websites/pages as well,
From this point, and after getting good overall positions for the cities, you can check which of these would need some extra boost to rank for the location,

You'll need good internal links along with this to make sure that the link juice is flowing between these pages/websites,
That would require a good SILO generally as well as some content links and you're good to go
