How to avoid thousands duplicate product descriptions on e-commerce website for SEO?

I am now trying to set up my own e-commerce website. There are hundreds till thousands products that I want to list on the website. I have been reading about e-commerce website's SEO also somewhere. The thing is, how do I manage each description so that they are all unique, and not the same with manufacturer's detail and description since there are hundreds of products? It will take forever if I try writing unique ones, one by one before I could launch my website.

Does it even matter to have unique product description for all those products?

really? I thought google doesnt like duplicate contents. well, if this is true, those guys must have been exaggerating it
