How To Avoid Scams

Thank you. I know that you, along with other admins, are trying you best to keep BHW forum as professional and safe as possible. I have a a question though: Shouldn't the scammers' posts in Marketplace be all deleted once the post owner is banned? I was a Lurker when I come across this scammer's post, so I do not know that he is banned. Today I just become a newbie, I did report his post and get an alert that he is already banned. However his posts are still there in the forum, and he has multiple look a like posts. He even took the links of them to post on other platform in order to proof his legitimate. Just search "MINO AGENCY" on this forum and you will see.

heres how to cut down 95% of scams in 3 simple steps.

1 - never buy anything from a member with a yellow name - EVER
2 - never buy anything from a random bhw pm .
3 - only buy from market place sellers .

ive followed these 3 steps 15 years, never been scammed once on bhw.
your welcome.
Sir, I am a newbie here. Does yellow name mean that the user is new or does that mean something bad? Because me name is yellow too.

We do not delete posts indexed by search engines. However it is easy to notice that the thread starter is banned so one can not start business with them anyway.

The two prominently appearing posts are actually the graphic assets in his sales thread those are still present in BHW media. However as I already said nobody can do business with them sine they are already banned.

Certainly not 'bad' ;) . Every user who is newbie has a yellow color. It simply means that the user is a new member and nothing else, that's it!

By guaranteeing or escrow transactions, I think a lot of scams will be eliminated

Thank you very much.

I have learned how safe and precautions I should take in my dealings with BHW.
BHW has very interesting information and items for sale and I will do my best to deal with reliable and trustworthy sellers.

An excellent and informative article, while reading it I took note of a couple of points from it and will share it with friends!

Scammers are everywhere, we just need to look before we leap.
I agree, caution is key. It's important to verify information and not trust immediately. Safety is everything!

Thanks for this post! It is very helpful for me to understand how to go about when buying service.

"If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is." Cannot be said enough.

A fun shortcut I use to test if someone who is suspicious or especially approaching me with an offer without prompting is to throw some Naija slang at them (This is the street slang used by virtually all Nigerian scammers and often other scammers from all over, it's also spoken by plenty of non-scammers in Nigeria and elsewhere FWIW).

Wait and see what happens.... a simple "alaye" works well, or, if you're feeling creative, search up some other colourful Naija vocab.
"Alaye" is a short hand for "yo, i'm scamming too so don't waste your time" basically. Usually they'll say some pithy or playful shit back or just block you and save you the nanosecond or two. They really don't like it when you call them a fool, use this information cautiously but strategically if need arises.

Is doing business Paypal is safe here?
If you want to pay via Paypal, that is fine. Many sellers here accept PayPal. However, make sure you do your due diligence and read the seller's reviews, etc., before making a purchase. This practice will help minimize your chances of getting scammed.

As a lurker for a while and someone actively looking for services and guidance, not necessarily in that order, I'm glad I took time to start digging. Thank you, its helpful and already stopped me making a mistake!

F+F I think is just still a simple route to avoiding charges I don't think it's any more complex than that. I've had it a few times. last time the seller (not BHW) got scammed. Karma maybe?

Thanks, I'm new and I've never tried the services here, but I hope to find good sellers.
And it's good to know that we're in good hands. :)

Thanks for the guide. Hopefully I never have to deal with any other scammers because people make more money being legit anyway.

This thread is super helpful. Thanks a lot for putting everything together so clearly!

It’s really easy to get excited and let our guard down, especially when an offer looks too good to be true. The part about people PMing with weird Skype IDs really hit me — definitely seen that before.

Good reminder to always double-check and stay careful.
