anyone knows how to add a custom youtube video thumbnail instead of youtube's default caption images ???

Go to video manager. Edit video. Scroll half way down and you will have 3 still images to choose from.

I want to add a different image thumbnail instead of those 3 captions

You can't do it if you are not a YouTube partner, unless you put your costume image in the video itself for a half a second or something. (You must know where exactly to place it though, I think at the 25%/50%/75% of the length of your video)
For example, if your video is 10 minutes, so place your picture for a half a second in minute 2:30 or 5:00 or 7:30.
I'm just not sure about the timing.

in your video editing software...add the image that you want in the timeline underneath your footage..extend the image to the end of the video (it will not be visible) this will allow the image to be part of the 3 image choices for yt

Are you sure that this technique actually works..?

I didnt know about this method.. Im gonna try that.

it doesnt always work. because people did they they made it mid give or take 5 seconds so you gotta stretch it <3

being a partner is fun

sorry guys after pulling the test vid that i initially did this with in 2010 and re-posting..it appears that it was either dumb luck or no longer works..sorry for the bad info

Just read the post above.. Be a youtube partner, don't waste your time if you don't know how to edit the videos and put in the middle of videos os something like that..

Apply to be a youtube partner and your good to go!

The Solution is:

Just make sure that your thumbnail image appears as at least the last 25% of the video, since it usually takes a shot every 1/3 of it.

I know it reduces the amount of content time, but it's the only way around it without being a partner.

I usually do a 5 - 6 min video and use up the rest with image after image after image until 9:50 or so ( Can't remember the limit now - may be 12 mins instead of just 10 mins, dunno ) but that always makes my preferred thumbnail the last of the 3 to pick from.

Hope that helps.
