How do I add a forum onto my website... I'm actually planning to hire a freelancer to build me a website in a few days. I just wanted to know how could I add a forum onto my website? Are there services that provide forum platforms? Please educate me on this. Thanks.

Have you tought this one true?
It's very hard to start a forum and get active members, I dont want to burst your bubble, just saying that it's not as easy as you might think :)
Niche? How will you get traffic? What does your forum offer that not any of the major one already do?

    Sorry for ot.

I thank you for your input anyways.... However, your post had nothing to do with informing me on how to add a forum to my website!

What forum are you going to be using? As that will determine how you will do it.

you can go about having it as its own complete forum like the vbullitins ipb power board etc, where you would design the skin to match your website, or you can get simple forum modules like for wordpress which you can plug straight in which embed into a page of your site.

Create a directory, such as "forums" and install it in there.

You can create a subdomain or just a folder in public_html

Download an open source forum script like phpbb

    Code:
    https://www.phpbb.com/downloads/?from=submenu&sid=e7e544116a2dbde7be2467b3854be864
And check out the install notes for it:

    Code:
    https://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/quickstart/quick_installation.php
Let's say you main site is wordpress and you would like to also install a forum. You will probably have to set up a new mysql db and user for the forum.

After you finish with the install just head over to eg yoursite.com/forumfolder/

    Hope it helps :)

Create a sub-domain on the domain you want it on. Normally people do "forum.yourdomain.com" and take the installation files you get from the website. "Phpbb" you can google that and get the files you need. I recommend it because it's easier to use for inexperienced developers. You can eventually change it to vBulletin.
