Ok, I see 3 to 5 goddamned 301 threads every week. Here is how to do it right (for a long lived money site): 1) Find a 1 to 3 non spammed domains with decent link juice (fewer domains is better). 2) Get hosting for them. 3) Put content on them - minimum of 10 decent articles that you would want on your money site (because they will be) - more is better. If you can use the same URLs as the old site, so much the better. If not, redirect to the homepage and/or to the new articles. 4) Let age like fine wine - minimum of 60 days, 90 or longer is better. Don't rush anything SEO related (unless you are churning/burning). 5) Optional: transfer the new site onto your hosting account for your money site. 6) Optional (but recommended): If you have Webmaster Tools on your money site, then add the site that you are going to 301 to webmaster tools as well. 7) Add the content from the new site to your money site. Redirect PAGE by PAGE to you money site. Redirect the home page. "Move" the site in webmaster tools. 8) Optional: GOOD QUALITY press release about how site X just bought and merged with site y. No keyword stuffing here. Just use branded/naked URLs. 10) Bank Note: I don't recommend 301ing more than one at a time...give it some time if you are doing more than 1. I wouldn't go above 3. Please. No more 301 threads unless it's about churn and burn (which the above doesn't cover).
