How the hell dropshipping works?

From my noob knowledges...you try to sell something, and when someone place an order to you, you go to ebay and place and order for that person, keeping the comission.
But how the hell does it works, on reallity? How to find patient buyers? Telling them the delivery time is 4-8 weeks would't ruin the whole business?

Amazon to ebay dropshipping takes a few days for delivery if ordering from your home country, if ordering from a chinese supplier then yes you will have shipping delays.

Plenty of dropshippers in most countries so delivery should only be a few days to a couple of weeks max if you don't want to make your customers wait.

I always do a sample order with new suppliers to find out how fast they really are.
