How the hell do I get gigs as a freelance writer?

I have made a website to put some of my blogs as example. I would like to write blogs/articles and copywrite on products, services etc. I am relatively new so I have not specialized in any particular field. I only work on Upwork. It has been going well, but slow.

Due to 2 recent negative reviews, my whole profile is in shambles. One client straight up cancelled me and gave me 1 star everywhere because I wanted more pay. The other one wanted something that was not in my control. He praised the work. But then marked the job as unsuccessful.

So, it's the worst. I am completely lost as to what I should do here. Freelance writing is competitive as is, but with my location, clients tend to underestimate my ability. I didn't get many chances even with my 5 star rated profile. And now clients see my score and go nope, not this guy.

The only thing I've ever been praised for in my life was my writing. And I'd love to work as a writer full time. But these recent events have me on the edge of the rope.

What do you think I should do? Is there any other sites I could try? So far I have tried freelancer, fiverr, people per hour, and truelancer. All of these have been quite bad for someone without any credit cards to use. It's the same in this place too. I have reinvested a good amount of the money I've earned in Upwork in at attempt to get more clients. But with the current state of my profile, it seems impossible.

Write a lot of really good guides on writing here on the forum, build yourself credibility as a member, then upgrade to Jr.VIP when you qualify and start a sell thread in the marketplace.

Sometimes you lose to gain more. Hard life when you low on the ladder.

Perhaps you can leverage social media and professional networks like LinkedIn to connect with potential clients and create a website or document that showcases samples of your writing.
