It's one of those "Download this software first" set up websites.

My chipset is Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE
I know there is a chipset out with something after 6150 SE but this one doesn't have anything after the SE.

Funnily enough I had the same problem with a clients daughters laptop yesterday. It may sound stupid but re-enter your Network password.

Just download ubuntu and boot form cd... select "Boot Without INtsalling" or some similar option. You will still have your data, ubuntu will run without installing.

Then open firefox or whatever and try to access the internet. Have FUN!

just check the specs on the endline for the...rotary...girder...

it sounds dumb, but i have a netgear router, and had to use the router setup disk that came with the router. I'm not techtard, but I couldn't get it set up without the setup program. You can probably download it from their site.

There's no support for ISP issued routers.

It's a Netgear CG814WG and the firmware must come from Time Warner.. it doesn't eve have a damn reset button in the web interface ffs.
I hate cheap things

I have had this problem in the past and here's how I solved it.

1) I logged into the modem's web interface
2) I just restored the modem to factory default settings.

That's really it.. but this thing doesn't have that option.. I really don't feel like spending $80 on a piece of hardware.. I'd rather find a way to fix it, then know how to fix it but i'm out of options and at this point I'm about to buy a new Ethernet cord, a new modem.

I've tried everything suggested excluding Ubuntu.

And I'm pretty positive Time Warner Chat is completely automated...

Do what satyawrat is telling you, if you can access internet then is an OS or driver problem, if you still can't access then is definitely a hardware problem.

Try installing a cheap ethernet card (they cost like $10), if this doesnt work then is your router/eth cable, etc..

I'm trying to find a cheap ethernet card.

Thanks to Krull Kitty!!! I kept looking for Bonjour in the services list and didnt see it
but since Krull posted the id of it... voila disabled that sucker and rebooted and only one network MyNetwork and Internet to boot

Steps to take
Start > Run
type: services.msc
FIND: Id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 in the listRight Click
Select Properties
From the drop down select Disabled
Click STOP
Click Apply
Reboot

Normally i just do a clean format. Partition your drive when formatting so you don't lose things.. And then reinstall everything with my mobo CD if that doesn't work. Hardware is defective.

Even I think that it is a problem with the hardware.

Try ensuring there are some services running:

run > services and check to see that the following services are running - wireless zero configuration - wired autoconfig - wireless autoconfig

Also try logging into the router from one of the other machines to see if your problem machine is visable - if so, arrange for a specific IP address to be allocated and then go to your IP4 settings and turn off DHCP then put in your 'newly set' machine IP.

Finally - all of the modems / routers I've used before have had the default gateway as 192.168.1.254. . . . . modify your's to this - it's worth a try to see if you have net access.

Best of luck - nothing p*ss*s you off as much as kit that doesn't work!

Well that didn't work, but here's the IPConfig for that one. Yes, I disabled the v6 to see if it would connect by doing that. I also tried it while v6 was enabled just in case some weird stupid reason.

yes, that could be a problem.

It works now.. I told you all it wasn't a problem with the hardware.. this just happens.

I have no idea how it works now but it does.. I pray that no one ever has to go through this problem.. there is no permanent fix for some people.. it just happens.

I took the computer case off of the computer, unscrewed the motherboard, took it out seeing if I could maybe take out the ethernet adapter only to find that it's glued on and by ALL THAT IS HOLY it just works now. I put the computer back together and it just works now.
