I would say it is.

You are going to spend $100 for a fix when you can buy a better adapter for $50.

You already said the networking forums can't seem to help you, but somehow maybe a marketing forum will???

I'm sure you have spent a lot of time working on this issue and that in itself is costing you money. I would cut my loses and just get a new adapter.

How is that a good solution? Buying something for $50 which might end up having the same problem, and then to buy another one?

Or learning how to fix this thing for when it happens again (which it probably will) since it's Windows 7 and not having to buy new hardware.

I'd rather pay for training to learn how to catch the fish rather than the fish themselves.

If you buy a new one and it happens, take it back for a refund and get another brand come on now.

Try1:

?Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration .?



  1. Start by running cmd from the start menu
  2. Type ?ipconfig /all? without the quotes
  3. Write down the physical address of which ever connection is/are not working. If you are hard wired to your router, then use the Ethernet adapter physical address. If you are running wireless, then use the Wireless LAN adapter. I had to do this for both.
  4. Go to your router's firewall and find the physical addresses of the connections.
  5. Find the physical address(s) of your blocked adapter(s) and unblock it.

Try2

increase the number of ip-adresses on the routers DHCP-server (from 1 to 5).

restart the DHCP client from Services and reboot the machine

installed the upgrade for Bonjour (it's listed as Windows Vista 64 software)

go into the main settings/control page for your wireless router and add your pc's ip then applyand save.

typically you can type 192.168.1.1 into your web address bar to access your router, I know this works for linksys and netgear routers.

2. Reset WinSock and TCP/IP Stack
Open a Command Prompt as administrator:
Reset WINSOCK entries: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset TCP/IP stack: netsh int ip reset reset.log
Reboot the machine (you can run both commands first, I tend to put multiple commands in notepad and then copy and paste into the command window).
 
whats your router ip, your pc ip, the other 2 pcs ips
 
try manually assigning an IP to the connection, that can be done in properties

192.168.1.2 or whatever it normally is if you know
 
Well, I don't want to recommend re-installing windows, but sometimes its the best solution, some problems are so deep that its not worth the headache.

If it works, great, if it does not, it could very well be a hardware issue and you may need a new Ethernet adapter (troubleshooting sux).

Hope you fix your problem.

Did you delete all the connections and reboot, setup again?

Is it wired or wireless?

PC or laptop?

Is a hub/switch involved?

Sounds to me like your network card is bad. Just buy a new one they are only a few dollars.
 
Well guys, I have tried every thing suggested and I officially give up.. I guess I'll just download Windows Xp or Vista and install one of those because every one I ask or talk to that's ever had this problem it seems to be a Win 7 related issue.

I've lost all my data, work and every thing by doing a clean reboot and even that didn't fix it. I can officially say that finally a computer problem has won. I have never been beaten by a single computer problem.. but today, it wins.
 
delete the network adaptor from device manager, reboot and search for hardware. if it can't find your network adaptor the card is stuffed.
 
Corygeer, I think the problem is not with your Ethernet port, nor it is with your modem.
It seems to me that the problem si in the software part.... [unvalid ip menas DHCP is causing problem]

DHCP is used to automatically assign IP address to the nodes in network.

Now there are two possibilities:
1.) You PC is not configured to accept the IP form modem.
If you are using windows, try running Ubuntu live from cd [you don't need to install it]...
I have stopped using Windows since I got DHCP error and there was no particular way to fix it.

2.) Reset your modem back to factory settingfs...
But as you have done this already, problem with the modem software seems unlikely.

Bottomline: WIndows SUCKS! Get linux, you have total control over the system. Its faster, secure and friendly! I am developing SEO/Marketing apps for linux and will post htem when I have doe with em.
 
Here are some suggestions:
1. Sometimes OS gives you a hard time. Try using Ubuntu live CD, if you get a connection and if you are able to use internet than OS is screwed. Clean install a new OS because I guess you have tried every possible trick that exists.

2. If you are still unable to connect to internet in ubuntu than your NIC needs replacement or your Ethernet cable needs replacement.

3. Try changing Ethernet cable.

4. Try to change the port on the router to connect.

How exactly do you run Ubuntu Live from CD? I found the Ubuntu website and apparently I'm installing it now.

I couldn't find a Ubuntu Live
 
I used to have this problem as well, turned out the ARM processor of the router was getting to overheated.
I cut a nice square hole out of the cover and attached a small aluminium cooling block with a fan on top, powered directly of off the 5V power.

If yours is always powered on, check if it is getting hot and let it cool for a while and try again.

Like I said, this just happened out of nowhere... but cheap ass modem/router compared with windows software. I can see it.

Will try it.
