How many weeks/months/years did you have to work on your website to start generating revenue? (Lets say about $20-$30 per day)

Are there any specific traffic benchmarks should one set?
How do you keep the website updated with content? How much time per day do you usually spend writing content? Or do you outsource copywriting?
How long do you do research before hopping into a niche?
How do you keep track of competitors? Any bots to use for getting news in regards to specific keywords?

Totally depends on number of UVs per month. Raking in users is just half the battle. A reasonable amount of time is spent on experimenting with different modes of monetization. Google's hectic way of indexing pages disrupts all expectation.

Are there any niche-specific modes of monetization or is it more just about understanding your visitors and experimenting with each and every one?
What is a good way to start drawing traffic to your website? Is it all organic-driven in the beginning?
