How smaller porn sites can be profitable?

Hi,

I made a calculation about the possible incomes and expenses of an adult tube site and I don't understand how can be profitable to run a porn site.

About the site:
  • you upload the videos 0.1 Gb each
  • the cheapest traffic is 5$/1 TB
  • the income is from ad networks, 1000 impression / 0.04$
  • there are 4 ad per page
  • you have 1m pageviews per month
Calculation:
1m pageviews generates 4m ad impression which pays (4m/1k)*0.04$ = 160$ per month. The 1m pageviews consists of 800k video download which is 800k*0.1Gb = 80TB traffic and 80TB*5$ = 400$. So the owner has 160$ income and 400$ expense.

I know that pornhub has other source of incomes, but most of the tube sites like hqporner which only operates with pirated content has any other source of income? What did I miss?

Don't host your own videos. That takes a huge chunk of the cost off your shoulders. There are plenty of hosts out there for the smaller guy.
 
A lot of small tube sites hosts their own (pirate) videos. How can it be profitable for them? Do they have other source of income? There are full videos on hqporner, so I'm sure they are not sponsored.

I know someone who uses a VPS. Unlimited bandwidth and add-on HDD's. There are other ways to host videos than to host with a data center. Have you considered that route? I haven't used a vps in a good long while but in general it used to cost me about 30$ a month for a 1g up/down connection, which if set up properly should be more than enough for a smaller site.
 
Instead of signing up with other ad networks for pennies you could make your own banners, and lead them to niche related adult CPA offers. Crakrevenue has CPA offers that payout up to a 100 dollars. You could also put your own popunders on your site that lead to CPA offers.

You're weak at maths.

If each video's approx filesize is 0.1GB, your visitors wouldn't be consuming 80TB of Bandwidth if they watched all your 800k videos.

Tell me how many porn videos have you FULLY watched without skipping and divide it by the total number number of porno you watch per day. You'll roughly get the CORRECT answer to your calculation and the result will be surprisingly lot less than your assumption.

You might also have to look at high Bandwidth providers like 100TB or consider buying the server with 1/10 Gbps unlimited port.
 
Better embed videos from other tube sites and use a plugin like KenPlayer that removes any pop up and other ads from the sites you embed videos from. You would save a lot of money that way.
 
Yea I don't host any of my videos on my website it is all embedded and plays off of other hosts. There are some video hosting that will host your videos for free and actually pay your for the views on the videos, your viewers will just get ads. But you also make money from pop-ups and VAST ads, currently my site is making the most of the VAST ads but the banners around the site do pull in like an extra dollar or two per day. Banners also you can get a direct sell which they will different amounts for, but sometimes could be like $30 from one click. Really is just luck and with time you will see things start to even out and be able to figure out how much your making. But I am getting about 500k pageviews a month and this is on a $5 hosting plan. The website does go down sometimes and I do plan on upgrading the hosting but with embedding videos it really doesn't take a lot.

how do you do VAST ads with a embbeded video?

Will need to have a video player, the skin that I bought for my website actually came with a really good video player, but you can use kenplayer or other things like it to do the same thing.

i've tried plenty of video players like fluid player and video js but none wont load videos from sites like openload

Open load may block stuff like that because they want to put their own ads in the video also. Try just directly from the porn sites.

Ken player downloads the html content of the url in the background you want to embed, find the url of the actual mp4 video and embed that to your site. It seems to be good, but you have a chance that porn sites ban your server if you make too much requests and then ken player will be unable to reach their site and download the content.
 
I was curious about the business model of hqporner for example. They show one pop-up per session and 1-2 ads per pageview, but they host full HD videos up to 1-2 Gb. I think with this amount of ads they don't have more income than server expense. I guessed that they have other sources of income, but I can't figure it out. Some of you have an idea?
