Sorry for the possible confusion with the title, I just could not figure out how to correctly title this!

But anyways... I would like to start writing articles to make some money to fund some more of my long-term projects. I just do not know how and where to start. Currently I write 1-2 article(s) a day for my own niche site. I know I can bust multiple quality articles out everyday, but how do I start?
Do I need to create a BST thread?

    About me:

English is my only language, and I graduated high school in California if that matters (somewhat higher standards).. Also took multiple AP classes
I'm currently a collegiate student/athlete majoring in Computer Science, and I believe I have a firm grasp of english grammar and writing skills.

Here are a few of my questions:
    How do I start?
What rates should I try to start at? (Should I offer package deals?)
What would be a good return time for articles?
When ordering articles, what do you guys look for? As in what is wanted or needed?

Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated! :D

Throw up a fiverr gig and see what that gets you. Do you know how to do a copyscape test, do you know what keyword density is and how to use it.
Do you know what LSI terms are.

These are all things you should read up on too.

Usually a 500 word article I do in about 13 mins or so, which includes research and proof reading.

You have to lookup "how to write articles fast". A bunch of sites will pop up telling you how to pull the key points out of an article etc.

You have to make your own templates. Don't stop, and don't think lol

Said this a few weeks back to someone else I think, the way I started article writing on another forum was to give away a few free articles. Get some feedback, and then start charging for it.

Ever since then I've made a decent amount from article writing.

If you are giving away a free sample, shoot me over a PM.

I would like to give answers to your queries one by one.

    How do I start?.......
I must say that starting on forums like BHW can turn out to be a boon for you, provided you are patient enough till you get a client who wants a long term writer. Keep striving and yes maintain a base price and make sure not to bow down and write for pennies. If you have quality then you will be paid.

What rates should I try to start at?
Starting @ $1 per 100 words would be a good idea, once you create your niche on the forum, then you can charge more $2 or even $3. Start a thread in BST section, there are rules applicable for it and you must abide by them.
(Should I offer package deals?).....This entirely lies on you.

What would be a good return time for articles?
By return time I presume you want to ask about turn around time. This depends upon your schedule. If you have some other works too, then you can ask for a deadline of 48 hrs for 10 articles of 500 words. Remember it depends on your speed too, like @zmoney he can write an article pretty fast, if you have such a speed, then 10 articles can be easily summed up in a day.

When ordering articles, what do you guys look for? As in what is wanted or needed?

100% uniqueness is what you need to guarantee. Grammatically error free articles needs to be your forte. Well researched articles is also a pivotal expectation of a buyer.

Hope this helps. In case of any doubts then you can shoot me a PM, I would be glad to solve all your queries.

Rather than selling generic articles, why not sell yourself as someone who creates specific, technical articles? Rather than the usual fluff that people outsource for a couple of dollars an article, I would rather hire an educated person who can write articles for a specific topic.

You could try textbroker. You should be able to get plenty of jobs there.

@link-package, Textbroker used to be nice but it's a bit empty as of late. Team Orders took about half of all available orders, so it's either

    1. You're on a team.
    2. You take on crappy Open Orders with terrible instructions and too much research required.

    It's kinda "meh" now. :/

What I want in a writer is someone who comes across as knowing what he/she is writing about. Any monkey can write BS about any topic. What I want is someone that can get their head around a topic and come off as genuine.

I want to thank everyone for responding not only quickly, but with so much useful information!!

I've looked into putting a fiverr gig together, but it seems like there is just so much competition that I won't get anywhere with it. Also, I do know how to use copyscape and test articles and/or webpages. I also know a little bit about keyword density, from what I understand one should not put out a density of anything over 5%. And I am still curious as to exactly what LSI terms are and how to use them correctly, would you be able to help me with that?

I believe right now I'm at 25(ish) minutes per 500 word article I write including research, which I know I can lessen the more I write. And thank you very much for the advice!

So should I put a thread together about my article writing services then give out, say 5 or so, free articles for reviews then work from there?

Thank you so much for answering all of my questions and offering a copious amount of advice! I understand what you mean about trying to find someone who needs a long-term writer and I believe that even after creating a thread that it will be my main goal. Also, I think starting at $1/100 words would be good then eventually increase prices to $2 or $3 like you said once I get my speed down, can guarantee amazing articles, and have a decent amount of reviews.
I know i will be able to provide unique articles and I think I will at first give myself an extended turn around time until I can figure everything out.

I believe that with a little research, and my knowledge I can write articles for an assortment of topics.

like @theaxe12 stated, I've heard quite a few things about it being tough to make money there.

Thank you, I will make sure that I am able to show, in my writing, that I understand what I am writing about!

Anyone have any other advice to offer to me?? :D:D
