Hi.

First time im selling a site.

I've almost sold a site for $500, and if the deal goes through, how should i handle the transfer process?

He will get the domain and a wordpress theme.

The theme is obvious, i'll just send him a compressed file with the whole theme, Right? If i do that, will the theme still containt all my changes? links, tekst ect.

But what about the domain? how should i do that?

Assuming you've already got payment sorted, just ask the buyer to create an account wherever the domain is registered and transfer it to his account.

Make sure you don't transfer the domain until you get payment or use something relatively safe like Escrow.com to handle the payments.

Paypal is considered fine when it's the other party taking the risk. :)

So if you're the seller, get the money first before handing over the site. If you're the buyer, get the site first before handing over the money.

But, wait! Even that's not safe because as a seller you're always at risk if the buyer files a complaint. There is nothing, absolutely nothing you can do to avoid a chargeback. That old trick of sending the buyer a CD so you have "proof of delivery" doesn't work anymore either.

You'll have to zip all the files on the site. Also you'll have to export the sqldatabase if its a blog. I'd make sure you get paid first though.

Once you receive payment push the domain, then compress all the files, then export the database. Then he'll have to upload all the files to his server, edit the wp-config.php file to change the databse user info. Then he'll have to import the database file.

Good luck on the sale
