How should I choose SEO specialist?

Hello everyone.

As most of you, I run own blog and website. I am good at what I' doing and I love my niche, but I understand literally NOTHING in search engine optimization. I know in general what means linkbuilding, keywords, analytics and other staff, of course...but I don't want to and I don't have any time to go deep in that - I just want to focus on my websites and content managing.

So I came up with solution - I will hire SEO specialist or company, who will take care of improving my websites in SERP (yeah, I know that word). The question is - how should I choose my SEO partner? I don't understand anything in SEO, therefore, I can't distinguish bad or good SEO company. I don't want to waste my money on poor SEO.

Please help me choosing SEO partner! I would appreciate any advise. Thanks!

This is tricky because in order to get a good service the provider must know what you want.

Do you want them to build links to your website? Or make sure your on page content is targeting certain keywords? How big is this website? Do you want SEO done for all pages?

Anyway I would highly recommend you learn SEO, both on page and off page SEO.

It will save you a bunch of money and you will know what to ask for when you need to buy a service.
 
Here is my tip, the majority that have "SEO" "CEO" and the main one to look out for "Guru", in their titles, know fuck all about Seo.

I agree with asap1, especially about learning a little bit of SEO yourself. Not only will this help you figure out what you need as far as SEO services go, but it can help you detect and avoid SEO scams much more easily.

Additionally, find an SEO specialist that works with you and not just with your website. If you want to weed out some of the bad SEO specialists, ask them the following questions:

  1. If I order from you, will I get first page rankings for any keyword? - Scammers love making guarantees.
  2. How often do you send reports to your clients? - If they don't send any reports or updates regarding your website, it's probably not best to work with them.

Good advice here. We should make some more threads like this - seo terms you should run away from / why you shouldn't ask for help to invest $1000 / People don't always put their real name on the internet / When your posts say "I'm easy to scam" and so on :)


OP - start reading lots of threads and if someone promises you amazing results at a low cost back away slowly. The real experts will not beg for your business but you can learn a lot from them.
 
First of all, are you sure its SEO specialist you need? May be its marketing specialist?

Generally you need SEO only after you planned and implemented the conversion funnel. Doing SEO, before you have the funnel ready, is a waste of resources.

try what you learned
then get others service to compare & improvement

I don't need marketing specialist. I know my niche and I have learned a lot from other websites - their earning methods, their target group, website structures, keywords and other staff. What I really need is to improve my SERP rankings, that's it. But unfortunately I know nothing about linkbuilding :(
 
You can ask some of the more reputable sellers to check out your website and give you a quote. I know Tommy will, and he has the resources to rank you. The problem would be cost, but if you have a legit business I would go the option of someone trusted.

Ignore all the PM's you get. All of them. No one will offer you free or cheap anything.

Also, just because someone 'knows' how to rank does not mean they can rank you. In the same vein, just because someone promises ranking does not mean you will get to page one or number one.

You want someone who can suggest KWs you can rank for, is realistic on the time frame to rank, and will tell you if you budget will allow it.
