I want to make a site where users can compete small tasks to get entered into jackpots, I want to take this to a developer but I don’t know if Wordpress would work with this kind of site since everything will be responsive based on what the user does, how can I approach a dev with this idea?

No, WordPress is a news-only site engine, i advise you to choose something else and much faster
