Hi everyone
I follow over 500 people and have never seen 470 of them like a post, which is impossible. It's always just a small group of familiar friends. Some friends I interact with quite a bit via messages, but most I've never spoken to. So I wonder how selective Instagram is.
Have you noticed that no matter how many people you follow, you only see about 10-15 familiar people liking your posts?

i think that instagram displays feeds mainly to people whom u engage with on a regular basis, which explains y the same names always pop up. being followed by someone does not guarantee that u will be able to see everything that persson does.

Instagram doesn't show every follower's activity equally, since likes depend on who sees the post and chooses to engage. Many followers may simply miss it in their feed, so checking reach and impressions in Insights gives a clearer picture than counting familiar names.

well i do not think that following 500 individuals guarantees that each of them gets equal access to ur feed. there are some profiles that constantlly appear on ur newsfeed but others do not show up for several months at once. it would be interesting to find out what matters more how often u post or interact with ur followers.

i think lot of it comes down who actually see your post in their feed. following someone not mean their activity will show up to you every time and same goes for your own posts.many people probably scroll past without liking anything so names you notice most may just your more active followers.

Yes this algorithm will feeds ur posts to just a small number of active dming users or recent story clickers and anyone else is invisible untill you create new engagement.

How many followers do you have though? Because if you post something only your followers and friends that have followed you can see it.

Your followers won't necessarily see every post you share, because the feed is constantly updated with new content, older posts eventually get pushed down and disappear from view.

Organic reach to existing followers is throttled ~5-10% unless those accounts actively engage with u. IG prioritizes accounts u exchange DMs with or whose stories u view daily. if u want the other >450 followers to see your posts, u have to warm up the relationship signals by viewing/commenting on their content first ;)

Instagram follow and unfollow method provide low engagement than using promotion method, most follow profiles may not get interest in the profile post with follow and unfollow method.

I don’t think that keeping track of other people’s accounts and waiting for them to "like" your posts in return is a viable strategy. Instead, the typical approach is to create engaging video content that captures viewers' interest and reaches a wider audience; based on how well the content resonates, those viewers will then decide whether to "like" or share your video.

Do you mean likes on your own posts or friends’ activity in Reels? People can hide their Reels likes and comments from the Friends tab, so it isn’t a complete record of everyone’s activity.

Does proactively removing them from your follower list help improve engagement rates

If I increase my posting frequency, will it help regain the attention of people who have been missing for months?

Would creating Reels help me re-engage my old followers better than traditional static image posts

Instagram doesn’t show all posts to everyone because it’s become very selective now. Instagram initially shows your post to only ten to fifteen percent of your followers, especially those who talk to you the most. If they like it, the post goes forward, otherwise it stops. That’s why you always see the same 10-15 people you know.
And one more thing, if someone doesn’t like your post, it doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t like you. It’s possible that they saw the post but didn’t like it. Having fewer likes on a post doesn’t mean that people don’t value you, friendship and relationships are also important apart from likes.

The post seems to be "pushed" only to a small group of 10-15 close friends and family members. Could it be that my organic reach is being restricted?

Or I could proactively send a greeting message so they could see my post.
