How secure are VPN apps really?

So in translate you will just change company/people who will track you. I use VPN only when I'm in the public place. Also I rarely use VPN for payments.

What you guys think, do VPN really stand for privacy?

VPN adds an element of privacy, but nothing is 100% in my opinion.

I always use one on my phone, but that's to get rid of ads without rooting - DNS66.

For normal browsing on PC, I don't bother - not like I have anything to hide anyway.
