How safe is Proxifier?

I'm using a private proxy for browsing and playing poker at work using Proxyfier (https). Is this safe for this kind of things?

Someone told me that I might need a vpn or socks proxy for poker, but Proxifier is recording traffic (that should?) be redirected while I play.

proxifier is very safe, your proxy provider records your logs, also your ISP ... I recommend getting a dedicated private VPN, the connection is encrypted and your ISP is not able to see what websites are you visiting !
BUY DEDICATED VPN you need a virgin dedicated VPN because you have to access your poker account only from 1 ip that is not blacklisted !

How does a vpn make it safer? The website I visit knows the vpn ip and could easily get back to me through the vpn provider, right?

you have to talk with your vpn provider to see if they are keeping the logs !

Yes dedicated proxies are better and you are already on good line.

There is no problem with proxifier but make sure to only use non-transparent proxies. Otherwise you may be showing your ass to them I personally know some reputable sellers also sell transparent proxies so it's always good to check them up yourself.
