how safe is private whois?

    i want to buy a domain from namecheap, im wondering if the private whois is completely safe? or should i just put fake info just to be safe?

    I would also fake it, I heard of a story where someone rang the privacy provider and social engineered their customer support into giving out the details of a domain owner.

    whois protection is really really BASIC protection, just hides your personal info from the general whois database and anyone searching for your domain names and details. Any legal action/orders and your details will be revealed within minutes.
