How reliable are Domain appraisal sites like valuate

First, Hello BHW. Logged in after like an year of battling sickness.

Now to the point. I bought couple of domains more than a year back. And I want to sell that domain now. Its JUST a domain. No content whatsoever.

Valuate . com says its worth $860. Should I be setting my price around this number? Or are these evaluation sites complete bogus.

I wouldn't trust those sites at all. Do a little homework yourself to figure out the value. Look at auctions for similar domains. Look at values such age, brandability, quality of backlinks, existing content on the website, current traffic, etc. People who buy domains are also interested in PageRank so take a look at all these metrics and figure out a value. You could be shortchanging yourself by using one of these websites. They don't take enough factors into consideration.

If I were you, I would not trust the prices from these automated appraisal sites. They just guess based on silly factors like the length and age of your domain. There are some other factors in there but they are insignificant.

Your domains might be worth more, they might be worth less. But I wouldn't let those sites tell you what to price them at. Even try looking up this domain on there. It only shows it's worth $122,000. I'm sure it's worth a lot more than that.

There are even forums out there where you can ask people to appraise your site/domain.

None of them are reliable because the value of something is dependent on what someone is willing to pay for it. The only way to know the true value of something is to put it on the market for sale.

yeah. I was afraid the way these sites value would be pretty shitty. I guess its a market in its own. The site valued my domain passionxx at 860 and 8tapes at 440. The first one would still make sense since its pretty close to passion-hd (big player in porn). But the second one seems useless to be worth 400. But if it is bahh gawdd its gonna help me so much pay mah medical bill.

Is sedo a good thing? I just registered there. I am good with making eyecatching stuff but such a noob at domains. fml
