Ive been messing with wordpress for a while now and I'm good with setting up a wordpress and using most of the features wordpress offers. I however was gifted a website design book recently and it got me motivated to become a skilled web designer. So if I became a skilled web designer what different kinds of way can I profit from the skills that I wouldn't be able to be solve with just wordpress.
How profitable is learning web design over just knowing wordpress?

The first thing that comes to my mind is building templates. Come up with a solution that people are seeking in a wordpress theme, code it and sell it.
If you are more interested in just building sites for people, start by building yourself a nice portfolio of sites where people can view your work.

A good web designer with some coding skills can make some serious bank. There's a huge demand for it out there. You have the option of building your own products, or you can consult/go full time for someone else and pull in $100k+ a year pretty easily. However, you're not going to get to this skill level overnight, it takes quite a bit of time and dedication to get there.
