How much do advertisers pay for news websites? To reach a goal of revenue of 1k per month, how much traffic will I need and how long will it take me to get there?

Considering most written news publications haven’t been doing well for quite some time, it’s not something I’d personally get into. If the Los Angeles Times and New York Times are having issues, then I don’t see the little guy making it work.
A niche blog could work, on a specific topic say fishing, guns, tech, whatever. But general news? No one needs what you’re offering, that’s just the honest truth. Anyone can go to AP or any one of the many news sites instead.
If you’re hell bent on doing it. I’d expect rates no better than porn (maybe a penny per 1,000 views if you’re lucky) maybe worse if you’re just reposting AP stories.

I guess I can take 6 months to 1 year yo achieve that figure if you are working alone on the site.

Well, trust in sources of mainstream news is very low and has been decreasing year over year. More young people get there news from alternative sources, regardless of any political leaning.
