Hi guys,

Looking into Press Releases how have you found them? do they provide traffic and how effective are the backlinks... i have been looking at services such as PR buzz? are they worth the money?

Looking forward to hearing your comments.

Press releases are a great online branding signal generator. If you have the right message and if it gets syndicated, picked up by various news sites, then the effect will be tenfold, your site getting some much needed authority. Due to the fact that online branding is a ranking factor, as well as authority, the SEO effects are visible, so yeah, press releases help in SEO.

Bear in mind that the online branding effects pr's give you are short lived so you should think up a strategy for the long run, announcing a little bit of something every once in a while.

I use PR for link diversity and I consider them good for backlinks not for traffic. I do PR for every site I optimize since it increases credibility of website and contributes for SEO.

I recommend doing PR once a month. It helps a lot in SEO.

I would recommend press releases ONLY when you have something to say in the market or if you can make it look syndicated. Otherwise, it could backfire into an automated penalty (I've seen press release abuses turn into penguin trouble).

Well Its all about how you do Press Release. I do Press Release with some theme which looks natural like some sort of announcement from company in term of discounts and offers, participation in social service or relaunch of website. You can come with good theme if you can do little brain storming.

And also use company name or Broad term for anchor text rather than using main keyword for back linking if you get option to link in content.

And do not use multiple PR website for submission. Use one good PR network and let them syndicate the PR. I usually use SBwire and my news gets in Google news within 24 hours/ Also most of PR's are no follow. Am I right?

Well its all about personal experience and perspective. It worked for me many times so sharing it.

They're very powerful and do help a lot if used right. Since simply posting any spun crap or articles full of errors on the press releases doesn't works hence you need to make sure that the content is good, catchy and attracts the reader's attention.

If you do everything right, then it would get automatically posted on a lot more sites which will help your site in gaining more authority and increasing its worth, eventually bringing in more traffic and revenue.

For Authority ofcourse, We cannot overlook the fact that Press Release have always been a strong part of our link building.

I think it is only worth it if it gets picked up by a big name from the press release.

PR are not quite as powerful as they once were -- but still I think your making a mistake if your not using them.

I agree once a month is about right for most people - more than that and you really need strong reasons for submission.

Hi Guys thanks for all the advice and views so far, so not very good for traffic but good for backlinks... good stuff!

A mate of mine has used them in the past, and they're really powerful. I can't say whether Press Releases are STILL as powerful as they used to be pre-Penguin, but nevertheless, if you have something important coming out, make an announcement concerning it.

Thanks for all the feedback defo something i am going to give a try and see if it helps.

If you use them in the way they where intended
Yes they are good value
But if you spam them, then theres a good chance you will be penalized

Will they help rank on their own? Probably not. Everyone and his dog is buying PR links.

Will they improve your link profile and keep you out of harm's way? Yes.

But if you're doing something spammy/low quality I would spend my money elsewhere (moar spammy links!).

If you are following proper proper rules and regulation of press release and white hat SEO, then it is very good, but if you are copying the whole content then there is no merit or advantages of press release.

Thanks

yes, branding is so important , it really lifts you up from the crappy spammer competition, so press releases are great...
