Let's say you're a website / news website and your profits depend on Adsense..

you get like 5000 views a day and you make like 5$ per day per Adsense...

Naturally you need more content so you need to cover the expenses of the content paying that, and it never ends..

You need like MILLIONS of people to come to your website everyday in order for adsense to be nearly profitable..
Or am I missing something.

It all depends on the Type of ads people see. And your CTR. Hotjars to see what people do on your site can help to optimize ads locations. For ads you can block certain ads in your adsense panel. Or you can do the ad sense experiment to test your traffic
 
Why would you limit yourself to AdSense only?
Let's say you have same site, same visitors but have 2-3 additional networks in addition to Adsense.
Even if you are going to make same pennies as you do with AdSense that would already be a $20 a day, not $5.
 
It depends. Once i've had $15 RPM and $2CPC for over a week. But then later, i was at $8 RTM etc...

+ i didnt have a lot of content, all i had is tons of traffic at once and lots of clicks on the ads (all natural). The RPM and CPC improved fast. I didnt modify anything in Adsense settings. So, focus on Tier 1 traffic, and try to improve ad clicks. If you have lots of these, big advertisers such as Trivago and other big companies will put ads on your site.

How did you have a lot of traffic ?
 
Placement of ads is very important to earn in adsense. Use ultraclick theme to get good CTR.

Simply instead of news choose a passive niche and you will get $5 per day without any additional costs.

More or less yes, this is the pattern. But you can choose another medium than Adsense as well, like Adcombo
 
Should have atleast 50 clicks off 5000 visitors

True but to think that you would get clicks on ads is not always a possibility. I mean most redditors don't really click through on anything.

Didn’t see his traffic was coming through reddit. Never been a big fan of Adsense but used to always hover around a 1-1.5% CTR. These sites were also built for Adsense though. Maybe try a taboola alternative, those types of ads seem to do well on News sites.

Exactly, clicks are good and ensure that you’ll have better and higher paying advertisers, but this is not always the case.

The best way to make a setup where you getting paid not matter of the clicks to the ads, but for impressions (CPM) too.

So, considering what OP wrote in his post, having additional networks would at least double his daily earnings, and few twists maybe bring even better results.
 
This is why you should do SEO and get organic free traffic
AdSense is only for boost
AdSense is to promote some services or businesses offers not to get viewers anyways
