We've all heard the story about AskTheBuilder.com (Tim Carter) getting screwed by Google. This is the first video I have seen of Tim explaining what happened, and it's definitely worthwhile to view. According to the video, AskTheBuilder.com was getting 60,000 visitors per day until Panda came along and halved it. What is interesting is Tim's opinion of how Google used organic listings as placeholders until Google built the infrastructure to serve paid ads. This is something I know a lot of people believe, including myself. Anyway, the video link is below if you want to see a good example of how Google's algorithm punishes those that create high quality content that competes with Google's own products/services.

I give the man credit. He could have went back to remodeling and just kept silent. Instead, he continues to tell his story to anyone that will listen.

I'm downloading the mp3 as I type. Thanks for the URL.

Meh, Sounds like he was probably getting too much love from Google and they just brought him back to reality. 30,000 uniques a day is still a massive shit ton of traffic. I don't think they made a mistake with Panda anyway. Penguin on the other hand...

I would not be surprised if penguin nailed his site too. Where I reside at, all common remodeling based keyword queries in Google have all paid ads above the fold.

I remember this guys site featured on adsense. This guy was easily making $x,xxx a day with his site. Google has honestly gone ballistic lately. I'm not saying its impossible to rank for keywords, I just mean as a Google user, the crap I'm getting in search results is damn useless to me quite often. It's really sad.

It's time for google to realize that's it's okay for sites to rank high even if there's some artificial backlinking. They've been so headstrong about wiping out marketers that they are hurting their results. As the old saying goes, they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

They have so much money that it would be easy to expand manual reviews. Hire several thousand more people to manually review the top 10 results of all reasonably popular search terms. If the site delivers what the searcher is looking for then fine. Who cares if they inflated the rank with bots or services? If it's good and what the searchers wants then it belongs there.

Yeah, it's true. I don't remember the googleadsense blog post, but here is the video

Actually its not the 1st video at all. I have seen a lot about him. Google is a brand lover now. If you can spend money with Google then he is happy with you. But if you are a struggling person, you will face thousands of problem in your success path.

google is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....they have lost me as a customer...and this doesn't mean i don't use them for my searches, i use them so they have to pay the electricity to power the searches i perform and if i see an ad i like, i note the url and go directly to the site instead of clicking on the ad...

FUCK GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe how many people still suck them off for whatever they do when there are countless stories of them destroying people's business. It's obvious when you study niches and see nothing but youtube and giant sites that have adsense on them all over, it baffles me how many people don't see it. They're starting to lose their market share and are getting desperate and squeezing in every direction they can but I guess until you step in the bullshit you're happy skipping through the field.

Once you hit a common milestone with your brand you can simply do what you want and nothing can hurt you. look at brands like nestle which are killing babies in third world countries but they are still a top player. and i believe killing babies is bit more drastic than putting someones ranking down.

This is so legit, proof that Google punishes whoever the fuk they want and don't care about user experience. I know the results for my keywords are all CRAP. I can't believe the sites that got dropped and the sites that were rewarded in their place, absolute joke.
