Users are less patient now. If a page takes too long to load, they leave, even if the content is useful. Faster pages feel more trustworthy and easier to use.

I totally agree. But honestly, now I use les of image. less time spent there implies more time onmy post and richer content.Page speed matters a lot
Heavy images slow pages, increase bounce rate, and hurt rankings, optimize images or speed will suffer no matter how good the content looks.
