How old were you when you moved out?

Hey everyone,

Just curious to see how old you guys were when you moved out of your parents home.. Was it your own choice? Or did they make you? How did you support yourself once you moved out?

Asking because I have the option to move out..tough decision, haha. I'm 19.

I was in and out at 18 (my choice). I had a retail job and a friend who needed a roomate so it all worked out.

I moved to the UK for 2 years when I was 19, best decision of my life - Living on your own - allows you to do your own stuff in your own time. then moved back home,went away again for 6 months ,now back for 1 year then moving again next month to a bigger city.

Had a High paying and big bonus job ,travelled alot.

after coming back,can't wait to get out.its never the same again after you move out.

if you can afford it .its the best decision you can make.

I did not want to move, when my parents moved to another city. The fact that I had my own place, made me more independent and grow up quicker. Paying your own electric bills etc kind of makes that happen !
Best thing I ever did though.

Since Im 16 i live on my own. Had no choice, I use to live with my mom but she past away when I was 16. Since then been working hard.

Best advice, If you dont have any issues at home, stay there and live rent-free for as long as you can and Save lots of money.

otherwise, up to you, Its nice to live on ur own if u have the money to be ok, not just survive.

Nice to read something like this. I wish I could say the same. Job's paying pretty well and career's advancing well but I'm looking forward to a few more IT certifications and hopefully get enrolled in ITT so I can be on the right track myself; looking forward to taking some courses that'll benefit me big time on the job.

I wish I could say this. I'd much rather wait on my GF to get a place together personally so I'm waiting on time

Well, thankfully, my parents will support me wherever I go (to the best of their ability). But I definitely want to start making an income so I don't need their support anymore.

Dude, I was in the same situation when I was 16. Except my parents made me move with them. We moved from Canada to the States and it was a really difficult move for me. And now, I'm trying to get the hell out of California!

I'm sorry to hear about your mother; RIP.

I agree in a sense, but I'm almost 20 now, and either way, I'm going to have to go to university and live on campus/near campus, so I'll have to move out sooner or later. Gotta start doing some serious IM!

At 17 (almost 18) I moved out to go to college. I was broke so I had to work more than study!

For sure. Now I would never admit that to my dad, but it was good for me. You grow up fast. I was able to get a good job, and actually did pretty well. I think I might be more broke now then when I was 18

18 for college. Moved back in temporarily at 28

to start IM business. Now about 9 months later moving out again and going to be living the dream out in Colorado. IM is the best thing that could have happened to me.

I was 20. Moved to a different city for university. Now I'm back home. Like someone else said, it's never the same back home once you've lived on your own - but as someone else also said, stay at home as long as you can.

Yeah, that's what I've heard from others as well. I mean, I have the option of staying here and going to a local university, but there aren't any good universities close by. Plus, California (where I currently live is really expensive). I plan to move to North Carolina where the cost of living is way, way cheaper.
