I've done some manual backlinking of about 15-20 blog comments, articles, bookmarking, and web 2.0s, for about a week everyday but I still haven't seen any progress in the SERPs, around page 10 for a low comp keyword. Is it going to take a bit for me to see any progress?

you can always cross to the dark side of bhw:) it can take from hours/days to weeks.

Depending on the niche, Google can update the SERP's even on a hourly basis.

with manual creation and not creating backlinks to them to get the 1. tier links indexed it will take longer for Google to find them and count them.

Cheers

G updates all the time .. but to see some improvement you can expect a week or so (depends on things like niche, what backlinks etc..)
Like someone said here try to build links to your web 2.0 etc..

Good Luck

they do it as you type. The robots are constantly checking for new back links, new content, etc....

You ping your posts and backlinks for almost instant indexing. It's impossible to know when they will update for sure though. I might be wrong!

As a few have mentioned, no body knows EXACTLY how/when they update. I know from experience it's often, hourly sometimes I see changes.

Im not the most experienced guy around but this is the correct answer, If i check every hour I usually see a few changes.

I would say they check it hourly.

Go into Google and type in "site:[website URL]" and see if they have indexed it. Otherwise another option would be to register it inside Webmaster tools and go to Diagnostics > Fetch as Googlebot. Once it finishes fetching, you can submit it into Google. From experience this took around 4 to 5 days

Google updates every minute I think.
30 minutes ago I was ranking #3 for a keyword and now i'm on #4. So...
