It depends, i usually know what i'm doing and virus scanning it's something i do with the Windows Defender (i know this AV sucks!) once a week maybe. However, from time to time i get betrayed like the malware from CCleaner a few years ago.
If i detect strange behaviors like a slow pc, screen popups, etc, i use malware bytes most of the times to find the culprit.

Probably never, I'm running Arch Linux. I keep a close eye on my network though.

My computer did a scan lately by an accident cause there was some McCafe bloatware installed with Windows 11.
I think it detected some node.js package in my software. I uninstalled the antivirus and it won't come back.
Also I deleted spyware created by google, microsoft and other shady companies. Make sure you stay away from one smth like cloud, g drive and more.
If your files are in sync with these cloud services, your computer can get hacked much easier. I think it's the easiest way to get hacked these days. Just download some crap file to g drive that is in sync with ypur ssd and bye all files - ransomware is coming.
Don't let anyone scan your files. They collect that as data. Use your judgment while opening files. Nothing will happen then.

Same here, but i always get a bit suspicious about mouse drivers and other software bound to my hardware.
For example the iCUE from corsair to control my AIO, etc.. that thing probably takes a ton of data from my PC, and i'm waiting for the day it's going to update and come with malware.
