How often do you post to your web 2.0's?

I am just starting with this process and have hit a hurdle.

My money site is a how-to site. I use imacros to scrape a ton of content, then TBS to spin and post to my site. Then I login to my web 2.0 sites (wordpress.com, tumblr, livejournal, ~15 in all) and copy a spun version there, with links to the money site. Then AMR and SB blasts.

I don't have an automation tool for posting to web 2.0's , so it's manual, time consuming and something I can't do for every money-site article. So which is better for the web 2.0's:

1. Manually create web 2.0 accounts, upload a pic and fill out the bio. Copy a few spun articles and link AMR and SB blasts to those articles only. In this case the web 2.0's won't update often or at all. Can I keep pinging them to keep the ball in the air?

2. Use tools like bookmarking demon or sick submitter and post to the web 2.0's they include. At least the web 2.0's will update often. I just don't like that I can't select my own set of web 2.0's to post to.

3. Both of the above.

4. None of the above - do this instead ...

Book Marking Demon won't post to 2.0 properties, it just bookmarks.

I build mine manually also. Roboform speeds up the creation. I usually build and populate the property with a generic post and image or youtube vid (preferably one of my own unrelated vids). I come back and post my real content with my link to my money site. I might do a third post later with my link.

I tried xgenseo and liked it but my version stopped working and I don't know if I saw any better results than when I built manually. I don't have the time to work on projects to justify the large monthly expense of automated tools for web 2.0.

I build the properties manually and then use AMR, SB and BMD to prop them up.

Denpends on the quality of the web 2.0 property.

Some 2.0 blogs do I only make a new post every month, while I have some high quality web 2.0 blogs that are updated a few times every day.

You need to automate as much as possible, so you don't need to login everyday.

I tend to do it every week, but it this not fixed in stone, I try to just update as much as possible without putting in too much work.
Automating using various tools obviously helps. So the answer to your question is a mixture of both 1 & 2 .

Why are you guys updating the web 2.0 so much? I usually make one post, drop a my money site link, and then blast the web 2.0.

Do you create 20-30 of them and BL them or do you create hundreds of them?

Interesting discussion - you don't really hear people talk about updating their web 2.0 buffer sites, mostly they just set them up and forget them, but lately I have also been updating them from time to time, just posting spun or rewritten versions of new content, or a new video I have made or whatever.

It is a bit time-consuming, but you don't have to do it across the board every time, just here and there. The purpose of these web 2.0s is for them to get some authority/juice of their own (that's why we're AMRing them, etc.) so it figures that refreshing their content every now and then can only help. I also only link from them to my money site ONCE - I don't think there would be any benefit repeatedly linking to the same site multiple times. I prefer to link out to other related authority sites, even semi-competing ones, though not to competing pages obviously

BUT, I also have a question - this strategy has worked fine for me for other sites, usually with just a handful of these Web 2.0s, but right now I am having a helluva time ranking an inner page on a site for what I think is not a very competitive term. I have built at least 10 of these properties (Scribd, Livejournal, Squidoo, Wordpress, Tumblr, you name it!) and the page absolutely REFUSES to budge from the end of page 3 in like a month!

Is this strategy still working for people? I am guessing it is, and that it's just this keyword - maybe I need to diversify anchor links, or maybe the rankings for it have been static for a long time (very evergreen home improvement keyword) and page/domain age is an issue. But I thought I would get feedback from others - maybe link pyramids/linkpushing got devalued overnight or something

1. Do some deeplinking and link building. Get a url with kws in the domain name. Next, set up a wp blog with one way links to your $ site. Blast the blog with scrapebox, senuke, whatever else...Make sure to update the content frequently with links to your sub pages that need juice.

Rinse and repeat.

You mention one blog, someone earlier mentioned 20-30 web 2.0 properties!

Are you seeing effects from creating (just) one blog and deep-linking to different pages on your money site? It seems like an obvious footprint if you are just linking to the same site all the time, or at least the links will not have much value?

I just checked my rankings on the keyword I mentioned earlier and I am FINALLY seeing some (upwards) movement, let's hope it continues. I think this is a time game, and also a volume game. Keep creating web 2.0s consistently (I am sure just one is not enough, but I could be wrong!), and keep backlinking them consistently, it takes time for the authority to filter down, I think. It has always been a slow process, so maybe it's just taken even longer for me this time round. But I can say one thing - I have NEVER had my sites Google-dance using this kind of approach. Slow steady improvements, and stable, long-term page-one rankings is what you get this way. Just takes patience - arrgghhh!!

Every now and again when I want to boost a particular key phrase I will write a 700 - 1000 word article surrounding that kw phrase and post it to one of the web 2's I have or ezine or other high pr directory.
It takes a week or two but it definitely moves my sites up the ranking on that particular word.
I have my ranking pretty much where I want it lots of twos and threes and only directory sites with many thousands of relevant inbound links above me. I rarely build links only pretty much doing so when I stumble across an opportunity it would be foolish to ignore.

I am finding I am getting very good results for unique kw related articles... I dont know what they have done to googlebot over the last few Months or so but they love it.

To you newbies this is not an excuse to cease linkbuilding, I only did so once I got the ranking I wanted.

It depends on how competitve the keyword is. My market is pretty competitve and i use 3 blogs to feed into my site and subpages. Just make sure you backlink those feeder blogs with those 30 DIFFERENT web 2.0 props. Also, make sure the feeder blogs are on different class ips. DONT USE THE SAME IP OR HOSTING for those sites. You want to MAKE SURE those feeder blogs are mainted with good quality content every week or two. You will see good results if you put in the time and effort.

Nice, thanks - I can see how for an important site that would be the way to go. Not TOO expensive to run on cheap hosting etc. Though I would have to avoid the temptation of reusing the blogs and/or hosting for other sites too, which is probably not a good idea. Still not sure about backlinking too heavily from those though, bit obvious, isn't it - or at least, those links lose value coming from the same domain all the time? One homepage link and a few deep links in context is about the most I would allow myself.
I guess for niches with less competition 2 or 3 half-decent Web 2.0s could replace dedicated feeder blogs/hosting and I like the extra tier of Web 2.0s above that - more juice and less spammy. Takes a while to set up but packs some punch. I do this kind of thing already to good effect but I think I'll step it up...

I NEVER understood why people are updating their money sites...

For me it is set and forget. I write an article for my front page. 5 articles for subpaages, have good onpage SEO, good backlinking and it ranks over and over again and holds the position. I ranked my money site and my subpages as well. I have some sites withe only ONE article on position 1 in google.

So what's the point of updating a website regularly? You can get some inlinks and you can get a better index count...but what else? While you write an article i have another 100 backlinks pointing to my money site...

Google values fresh content. In my experience (and maybe this depends the niches I'm in), I've had sites go down in the results after not updating them for awhile. I've also had sites receive boosts in the results shortly after posting new content.

I agree with you, my main $ site was top 3 of the serps for last 3 years. After the latest panda update i notice my competitors outranking me, and i think it has to do with the fresh updates blogs on there sites (intergrating into the hompage).

I have 10X the amount of backlinks coming from HIGH PR sites and it makes no sense other than not adding fresh content that i dropped drastically -10 to -20 for my $ kws.

Also, after the pands update, i think G takes into considerdation how much social site traffic (FB/TW) your site gets.
