i do weekly backup on my WP sites, i sue all in one WP, works great and is easy to generate and to upload if something happen

Depends on the site. Sites i never change or are dynamic rarely need up to date backsup, the ones that get new content and stuff get a new backup every few days.

If your site is just blog, I think one a week is ok, but if you have good hosting/VPS, you can do it daily. Dayly still better. You never know what will happen.
