running shopping and search campaigns for a supplement brand and just did a deep search terms audit recently. found maybe 10-12% of spend going to completely irrelevant queries like recipe blogs and wiki pages. I try to do this weekly but honestly it slips to monthly. whats your cadence for ecom search term audits and do you use any tools to flag the garbage automatically?

My rule is frequency based on spend velocity , higher spend = more frequent audits.
I also set automated rules or scripts to flag low CTR or irrelevant patterns. Manual review is still necessary, but automation helps catch obvious junk early.

I usually check weekly but if spend is high then every few days is better to save money.

Almost every day. For a couple of reasons:

1. The obvious one: avoid wasted spend
2. Algo training: the faster you are with cutting "spending branches" that make no business sense, the faster you'll be able to double down on what works.

One thing though, it's borderline impossible to maximize an all-in-all shopping campaign without hitting a performance ceiling pretty early. You need to invest a little more time in your setup.

I try to audit search terms at least every 2 weeks to catch any irrelevant traffic early. Tools like Google Ads' Search Term Report or third-party platforms like SEMrush can help flag bad queries automatically, but regular manual checks are still key.

I’d recommend doing a search term audit at least monthly, but ideally, weekly like you’re aiming for. It helps catch irrelevant queries early and save budget. For automation, tools like Google Ads' Search Query Report or third-party software like SEMrush or WordStream can help flag irrelevant terms, but you still need to review them manually to make sure you're not missing anything important. Regular audits are key to keeping the campaigns efficient.
