Thats a really crazy story steI have only one question after reading that, why you never tried again after your network was closed? Maybe you found a better niche or what?
I believe this was the golden period of YouTube. I've kept in contact with a few people and from what I have been told I would not have gotten away with 10% of the shit I did today. Content filters and copyright tools have come a long long way and I am not sure it's worth it.
YouTube also rip everyone off, for example you know those adverts you get on your mobile... 100% of that money is sent to YouTube and not the network or content creator. The only views they now pay on are desktop views, if you use an app or mobile device of any kind (including TV's and consoles) Google keep 100% of it.
YouTube have also come down hard on gaming, which I was involved in. Look at Machinima for example, they raised 50 million dollars and they are now a company on the brink of going under. They did fuck up and gamble on creating their own feature shows and what not which went horribly for them... but fuck, we made nothing like that so chances are if we scaled to their size we would also be fucked.
