One of my fellow Church going members asked me to design a website similar to this website https://www.rashidi.ca/

The problem is I've never designed a website for a client before nor charged for such a service. I can easily make this website but I feel like a fish out of water when it comes to charging a fee regarding web design. It's simple to me but I don't want to charge too much or too little.

He's pretty well off but as a Christian, I wouldn't feel right by charging him more just because he has money. I want to be fair.

Please help!

Look what they charge here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/forums/web-design.201/

It's great that you're willing to provide a service like this. Servanthood is admirable.

With that said, the cost for 5 pages or more on a website could range anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on who you have build it for you. You could think of it in terms of an hourly fee or a flat fee service. You could also view a place like upwork.com and do a search for website design to see what freelancers are charging for the service as well.

It might be easy for you, but remember that if you don't do it --- he's probably going to hire a Web design agency (presumably in Canada?) that's likely going to charge him well over $1,000 for a simple job. All these marketing companies in T1 countries are thieves compared to what you can get from the Philippines or BHW.

If it was me I'd ask for $500-$700.

Hi there! First, the site isn't for your Church, right? It's another site your friend wants to build?

So how much would I pay for a site "like" https://www.rashidi.ca/ Hmmmm

I'd pay above $400 but less than $1000, off the top of my head. But that's me; I know how to build sites with Wordpress, Drupal and Joomla. And that's actually fun for me, so I wouldn't mind registering the domain, setting up hosting, setting up the CMS you want to use. I like that stuff (weird?)

For me, the bigger question is the new website's content. Does your Church friend want you to add content, as well? (Articles/Blogs)? Did he say he wants a certain number of articles, blogs or product/service pages? I think the content part can end up being more expensive than setting up the site.

Good luck!

Get some prices from web designers that you like (there are web dev sales threads even in marketplace here, so check their listed prices) and add either a markup or a discount to what they usually charge.

They charge more obviously, but are they thieves? Almost everything costs more in tier 1 countries, not rarely a lot more, why would web design be an exception? Wages are very different on different parts of the world, you can't maintain your standard of living in a tier 1 country, if you ask tier 2, tier 3 prices for your service.

it only take 6-10 hours make a website like that. You can use wordpress theme Generate Press, then use Elementor to design. If I were you I would take $200

Get 3 quotes from reasonable webmasters in the area, and price accordingly.

Well everything else like food, housing, goods/services -- you have no choice because you are bound by your physical location. Web design would be the exception because it's something you could pay someone to do from any corner of the world.

A teenager with a little bit of Wordpress knowledge could build a site like that in 2 or 3 hours, yet there's no doubt in my mind that in certain cities like SF, NYC, etc. they would charge upwards of $1,500 for that. Not to mention, probably upsell you on 'social media management' and 'search engine marketing' for a *small* fee (without any guarantees of course).

I would be upset if a family member got swindled into something like that. It's highway robbery with 90% of those companies. Sure they have to keep prices higher than in India in order make a good profit in their respective countries, but it gets pretty excessive imo.

You can do it with 100$ in BHW.. But I cant suggest without knowing the market value on your geo..

Nothing fancy here. It's an ordinary design.
I'd say, $300-700.

Could be finished in like one or two hours at most. Define an hourly price what you think you and your skills are worth, and calculate it from there.

Roughly about $100-$200. Nothing fancy there so you can add your price for a glass of beer as well

In the wordpress infrastructure, I deliver this site in 2 hours, including all pages.

Moreover, authors can share content on the Blog as they wish. I deliver all features all inclusive for only $120. Because 120 dollars is a really good money in my country.

Would you mind explaining me the problem again - don't understand the actual issue tbh.

Find out how much local web designers are in your area, figure out how many hours it will take you, and multiply the two together.
