Perhaps make it free to the users and charge the companies who's products your promoting at a discount. There are so many sites like this now that I think you would have a tough time charging out of the gate.

The reason I don't want to charge the companies offering a discount is that it would cause them to offer less of a discount (as they would be paying us too). If it's free for them, they can offer max discount and therefore, a ton of value of members.

I was thinking of offering a free trial as well, so people can at least come in and have a look what is on offer.

Truthfully the answer is "0". I don't pay to get discounts. Too convoluted, too much effort, too twisty, like the process was delibarately set-up to confuse me so that I might make a mistake and pay for something I don't want or need, or pay more than what I would pay if I went shopping elsewhere.

What I pay for sells itself; a simple "X in exchange for Y" transaction. Anytime a Seller starts laying in complications, circumstances, "but wait there's more" my little radars start spinning, flags start waving, lights start flashing and there's this alarm sound ringing somewhere in my head that is reminding me of how I felt the last time some Seller had some deal that could only be gotten in a certain way with a certain payment here in exchange for a certain something there and once you've done that then you have the "opportunity" to give them more money in exchange for something else and I'm not all that certain I really got anything from the first payment I made so why would I want to pay a second time, I mean how stupid am I really to get involved in this and wouldn't I be better off looking elsewhere for whatever it is that I think I want and how bad do I need that thing anyways?

Maybe if I just wait a few days, I'll realize that I really didn't want the thing anyways, and then not only will I not "own" something that I don't want or need, but I'll also have the money I would have spent, so it's a "double-winner" for me.

That's the stream-of-consciousness flowing right there. Convolutions in a Sales Pitch = BAD DEAL. I don't shop at Sam's Club, because I don't see the point of paying for a "Membership" so that I can then have the privilege of paying for something else. How about I just go to Wal-Mart and avoid the hassle? And that's just what I do.

Besides that, I have to question the entirety of the thread. I can't imagine anyone being foolish enough to realistically come up with a "price" for something that they know absolutely nothing about.

Seriously? You'd pay $27.00 for a 20% discount on "something"? I'll sell you a 10-dollar bill at a 20% discount for $8.00, but you'll have to pay $27.00 for a membership to my club first. Maximum limit of 2 on this special offer. But we've got 5-dollar bills on our special "Summer Sale" at a discounted price of $4.00, and if you buy our $100 e-book we'll give you all of it, 2 10-dollar bills, 1 5-dollar bills and our hot-selling ebook "How Confusion Creates Profit" for a low, low Summer Discount Clearance Sale Price of only $80.00, exclusively for Special Members Only.

And that's the best deal on the internet right now. You can't buy this stuff at Wal-Mart.

the $47 offer seems fair.

just because $97 a month instantly cuts off SO many people who don't buy 2-3 services a month in order to make their money back.

the $47 opens you up to a larger customer base, its easier for customers to get value for their investment.

and finally, even if you don't use it, when you see a monthly charge for $47 you'll be like "ehh....its cheap...i get so much...." and you just stay subscribed. but $100 is a number that makes you go "whoa... im not using this....100"

second, you might want to consider an option that limits the amount of stuff people can buy. for example a $97 unlimited, a $47 with seven uses a month and a $27 with 3 times a month. now you can include all us IMers who dont really need constant services done every day.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't know what you're talking about.

I take it your answer was "$0". I think you're misunderstanding what I'm trying to offer. Where's the convoluted sales pitch or confusing?

It's going to be a simple offer with a refund guarantee so you can leave if you don't like it.

I like this idea, as it accommodates to differing needs.

Also the price really depends on the significance of the discounts? Will all be over 20%?

I get what B.Friendly is saying regarding membership fees. Recurring fees often set off my fraud radar or my overall aversion to paying for something that doesn't have a tangible benefit. I'm not saying your program doesn't have benefit but there should be several benefits that really stick out that makes joining a no brainer.

I recommend checking the competition and see what they charge. I'm a firm believing in pricing to the competition.

I think this really depends on the cost of the services which will be discounted (even if you don't have a complete list and I assume it will change over time, you can estimate the cost of the type of services you are targeting). You need to do a rough back of the envelope calculation of the average cost times the average uses by those who would subscribe and that total should be higher than what you charge. I know, not a lot of hard numbers there, but at this point you have to rely on market research (as you are doing here- but something more specific even amongst a closed group might be more beneficial) and estimates.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, both positive and negative are valued equally.

Keep them coming!

Hi guys,

Been opening a lot of new threads lately but I like to get feedback before launching anything.

I'm working on a new site (no pre-sell here!) which will:

- Offer exclusive discounts to various products and services in the IM niche (20%+)
- Have various resources free for members to use
- Have exclusive interviews with various IM experts

It will be a monthly fee, but I'm trying to figure out how much to charge. It can't be too cheap as that doesn't offer any value to the product/service providers who are offering a good discount as they are getting access to serious buyers.

Setup a poll, feedback much appreciated. Please be honest in your replies. I don't need any ass kissing :)

Thanks!

I would have to say that it depends on the services that will be offered. If it is link building, article writing, account creation, and stuff that people buy on a regular basis. I would say go toward the mid to high end on the price and target the serious marketers that spend at least 3-5 hundred a month on such services. That is if you have a variety of services to cover a wide range of the seo and marketing spectrum.

If your site is going to be more product related, then the lower price range would be more appropriate in my opinion. Unless they have a monthly re-bill.

I don't know what kind of free resources you have in mind for your site, but like a rank checker, keyword tool, and a decent backlink checker (that works) might be something that would draw in some members. There are tons of things that you could include that would be worth 27 bucks a month on their own.

As was mentioned before, perhaps a tiered price for the amount of services you qualify for. Of course that might be a little difficult to manage. But perhaps you could have a basic membership that gave access to the resources and interviews for 17 bucks a month and then the premium membership goes up to the 47 to 97 price per month mark for the 20% discount.

Just a thought and I am sure that you would vet all of your service providers, but would you guarantee that you get what you pay for? I have seen a few reputable members here on BHW go rouge and take the money and run. I assume you would have some type of support system to monitor any type of complaints and such. That should be something to consider when it comes to the pricing as well.

Anyway.... Good luck with your venture and let me know when its up and running so I can check it out.

Two membership levels may be a good idea:

1. "B" Members pay $17 and only gets some info and interviews.

2. "A" members pay $37 and get what "b" gets+ special discounts from the companies.

This might be a good idea, different levels of membership.

I realise it might be early stages, but it's difficult to price without knowing more about what will be offered - ie "various free resources" could cover pretty much anything.

I think it's a good idea if you get the right sellers on board, and make sure they're vetted properly - the last thing you want is to get a reputation for scammers offering services through your site.

As for the price, I would recommend starting low - possibly trialling $27 a month for the first few months and then maybe increasing the price.

I think it really depends to me. I usually watch things for a while before paying so I'd say if there were things coming out fairly regularly that I really wanted I'd easily pay $97. If the vast majority of stuff I did not want but maybe once a month something interested me than I'd be at $27 if I signed up at all. So, basically, I'd have to see a preview of the content before I could give you my recommended price point. Sounds like a cool idea though and I'm sure, since its you, it will be a straight gold mine!

I think that in order to offer a solid value to everyone involved, you should stick with either $47 or $97 (or perhaps even two different tiers).

I also think that the idea of a "free trial" of sorts will go a long way in attracting new customers, and transparency in (most) of your offerings will do the same.

I've seen similar offerings, in limited time discounts on grouped products. Would you be offering a set of regular discounted services, as well as some rolling special discounts? Contrary to what many people have stated, many are still willing to pay for quality. But you know that already.

I think the combination of resources, interviews, service discounts and occasional special discounts is a win.

really depends what exatly will be offered. If it is just another marketplace and I get discounts based on pure volume, we can negotiate that all with the provider. I assume you provide a platform but all payments etc will be directly witht he provided thus no real advatage here.
Lets assume I just use one service/tool offer, will I make back my money? So what kind of discounts are we talking about? How do you ensure this is the lowest price you can get? In the end its free to the merchant, they still compete with other services. What incentive do they have other than expecting because someone spends X that he will order more than someone that is not on the site?

Trial def would be good to see if one can get their money back..

I would try and price it as close to free as is humanly possible and try to monetize with kickbacks from sellers. Prices can always go up and you reserve a power section at higher cost with exclusive offers.

true yes, but also - higher the price, higher the perceived value! i'd do 97 a month. you might get fewer signups but they will be more likely to purchase products and less people to deal with less time spent mroe money in the long run. maybe. :P

I think one of the problems being overlooked by everybody, is the quality of services, I.m pretty sure you will vet them and they will all have your seal pf approval, But there will be people who join your site, expecting miracles from your suppliers,

Anybody who has sold on fiverr will know what I,m talking about,

How will you deal with these kind of people.

I think this could be your biggest headache. Because I think the members will expect you to support them and so will the suppliers.

Good luck with this. I will be watching out for your launch,

Obviosly it is impossible to offer any advice at this time , till we see whats on offer
