If you buy an article pack or an email autoresponder series off someone who doesn't have resell rights for them? Jail? a heavy fine?

Almost certainly nothing will happen.

If something does happen, you'll first get a 'cease and desist' letter.
If you do then cease and desist, that will be almost certainly be the end of it.

i wouldn't worry too much, make sure you have the transaction proof and just say you bought in good faith. They will get into trouble if anything.

tony_d is correct, you will undoubtedly have nothing happen and at worst get a C&D at which point you should stop and that will be the end of it.

Don't worry, as others already have said, nothing will happen to you. Especially if you are the buyer, as a buyer you cannot know that the seller has no resell rights (at least you can claim that).
