Hey guys and gals,
How much should I charge for a simple website such as http://www.aaatotalplumbing.com/ (random example that I found on Google, I have noting to do with that website) ?
Say that I use the same niche, how much should I charge to create such website for a local business owner?
How much would you charge?

Joomla site, looks good -==- a grand at least, 2 if you can get it. Also helps its a plumber, they can afford that.
 
Any other suggestions ? Also, should I charge part of the total payment before and after the job is done ? Should I charge monthly ?
 
You might want to look at what other people around you are charging and go from there. I personally would charge any were from $100-$350. And if you do any on page SEO for them just add a few more bucks.
 
half first, before you even lift a finger. half when done.
Charge nothing less than $500 (at least that gives you an idea)

$100 ? wow, where are you located? That's the cheapest I have ever seen

HAHAHA that's exactly what I was thinking. For a 2-5 page website and a nice design I think around $600 is pretty fair for both sides.
 
Well a grand sounded a little out there and $600 is still a bit much for a 2-5 page site with no real hard coding. It's only my opinion guys and you know what they say about opinions.
 
I would charge 600 + sell them hosting for ~100 a year, i do it for simple sites all the time and they usually dont bat an eye ate the price
 
Anyone who's sold Websites to local businesses offline will tell you this very same thing... It's not the sale of the site that makes you the real money, It's upselling your other services.

Honestly, You can give him the site for free if you want. But you'd better close a deal(Contract) for Monthly Maintenance, Hosting, Social Media Integration, etc... The list goes on and on. Pretty soon you'll have already made the ~$500 you were going to sell the site for, and he'll still be paying you monthly! After all, He's a plumber... With the amount of business this site's going to generate for him, He's now a busy plumber... He doesn't have time to handle these things!
 
For a site like that, I would say $400 would be the absolute minimum. $400-700 is very doable, and if they are not very knowledgeable, you could probably get the $1000.
 
I would charge min. $500. But to be honest, I think you could probably get a themeforest theme with a little nicer design and a few plugins and charge over $1,500 for same site.
 
400-500. It's pretty easy to make such a site, but your clients don't know that!
 
I have used plenty of websites, elance being the main one. I have found that every person who makes websites and is involved with web design values their work differently. You should ask yourself a couple questions

1. How hard will this be to make?
2. How long will this take to make?
3. Have you made websites similar to this? If so, compare prices.

I have paid to have 3 websites made so far. This one would have cost me anywhere from 500-650. It has a clean approach and is definitely up to date
 
What is the maximum figure you can ask for and still keep a straight face. That is the answer. :)

Really $500 to $1000 is reasonable. 1 weeks gross pay for a perpetual business frontage? Not too much to ask is it?
