What price frame did you have in mind? To me it kind of depends on how much time it takes you. I can make thing PR4 with little trouble. PR6 is more difficult for me. By the way, about how often do you find google updates PR ?

Ramping a site up to PR6 might be straigntforward - if time consuming - but doing so without a linkspam penalty is extremely difficult.

I am guessing you just plan to blast the site with a stash of high quality, relevant high PR backlinks? If you have to apply all of these that you have at your disposal in a reasonable timeframe (6 months) you will struggle to evade a penalty. I feel that to get a safe PR 6, it'll take a year, as you need to slow down the backlink building to come out safely on the other side.

Why do you need to get the site to PR6 anyway? It would only matter if you were building it up for SEO services or out-linking purposes.

You can get all the traffic you need with a PR 3 or 4, or even less. It seems like a bit of a pointless goal to me to just say "I want this site PR6" and then expect all your client's financial worries to go away once it hits PR6. It won't necessarily happen.

PR is not a cause but an effect, based pretty much on the number and quality of links you have coming in and not much else. I have a number of PR 4 and 5 sites that I hammered with backlinks, but they get zero traffic due to penalties. However, they still keep their PR, despite being essentially worthless except for linking out.

The easy way of doing this is to buy a (sensible) number of good old established authority domains. 301 them to the main site. You can spread the linkbuilding to these old domains to help avoid any penalty. Simples.

I was wondering the same thing as Micallef, why would you want to have a PR6. You should suggest him putting that money into something useful, such as SEO rather than an inflated PR. Just my $0.02.

Calculate how much it costs to buy the links to get a PR 6 rating, and then tack on a fat premium. I'm estimating $2000-3000

Quoting someone is very straight forward. If I have set my value to $20 per hour, that is the price i will quote no matter what job I am doing. Of course if I know no one else can do it, sometimes my hourly rates go up 20-50%. (also depending on how desperate)

Setting the base, if it requires you 100 hours of work then $20 x 100 = $2000 dollars for the project.

What is the current PR of the site.
If it's PR0 I would charge at least $6000 and request one year to complete the job.
Then have him pay you $2000 upfront and $333.33 per month for 12 months.

If it's currently a PR 0 then it should be $2,000. If it's a PR 1-4 then it should be $1,000.

that is like asking why some people need the biggest truck on the road, it makes them feel big and important or some BS.

the client should be more concerned about traffic and keyword ranking, you know, the important stuff.

PR is fun but it's the internet equivalent of teenage boys bragging about the size of their cock when none of them are getting laid anyway.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but you are forgetting abut a little thing called website flipping. A website with pr6 and some quality content and decent design can sell for $4000+ easily.
