Hi everyone, I need some advice. My small local website gets 70,000 impressions per month and I want to sell ad space to local businesses. How much should I charge local businesses for ads per month? (in US dollars). Any advice will be gladly appreciated.

Find competitors with similar websites, and inquire ads pretending to be a local business, ask 2/3 of them and then base your pricing on that. What kind of niche is that?

Hi, so you have around 2300 impressions daily and since its a local buisness your site is a top of the line place for his ad
I guess all the visitors are local people out of your area? It would be good to know if they are in the actuall target group for the businesses thats going to be advertised , you should surely observe the stats after adding the first ad.

So based on how fitting the business is for ads on your site and how good the click through rate is, i would come up with a fix monthly payment which can be reconsiderd every few month if something changed

Its hard to guess without more information but 1000 impressions i would say are worth around 3-5$ at maximum i suppose maybe even just, lets take 3$ that would be around 180$ for the ad

I guess you have mostly revisting user , so i suppose they would pay for the same impressions again and again . I would include google ads, more fitting ads for your visitors and because of that a better cpc and you still should have space to include the local ad

Sry a lot of speculation :D i hope i helped a bit

I suppose what I’m getting at (and I’ve gone the long way round) is that potential buyers will want the visitors your site gets not the amount of impressions it receives from Google because they won’t have any idea how many times the ad will be seen based on impressions from Google.

Unless I have missed something.

have you gotten inquiries from your website if someone is interested in buying adspace? or is your competition already doing it?
I've had inquiries from one company but they're only offering a percentage of sales from the ads.

You can do ads yourself ig
Not sure what you mean by ig?

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for that calculation, much appreicated. Yes, I was thinking of charging a fixed monthly rate for banner ads at the top of the page, and block ads. Could I still do Google Adsense even if I have "private" ads on my website?

Impressions or clicks, big difference.
Impressions.

Forgive my ignorance (I know very little to nothing about all this) but are impressions not the amount of times a page is shown to a visitor? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

How much were you making from display ads on the website?

Multiply that figure by 2 or more. Then go from there.

You should aim to earn more from direct ads than from display ads. If display ads pay you $1k per month from that ad location. Aim to charge more than $1k.

I haven't placed any ads on the website thus far, but now that it seems to be doing modestly okay, I thought it's time to try and monetize it by selling ads directly to local businesses as it's in a specific niche. But I have no idea what sort of price to charge for the ads. I don't want to get shortchanged, but at the same time, I don't want to charge a ludicrously high amount.

Can you please tell me what the difference is between a display ad and a direct ad? Thanks.

Not ignorance, we are all here to learn bud.

Impressions from Google just mean someone was on the Google search and you was on that page somewhere from position 1-10 say.

They don't have to click your site for it count as an impression so it's no use to ad buyers to know how many impressions you are getting from Google.

Whereas if your site gets 70000 clicks from Google and they land on your site and the ad is on all pages that would be 70000 impressions the ad would get on your site.

Thanks for that. That explains it. So 70,000 impressions is not that good. The site is only getting around 1,000 clicks per month.

Visit buysellads - look for something similar to your website and check their selling price.

It's really dependent on many factors, like how much are you earning if any from regular display ads. Does your site target the audience of the business you want to offer ads to.
