I am looking to rank in the top page for "wedding photographer perth" (Australia). I only know the very basics of SEO and webdesign. I am a successful photographer in other genres now looking to break in to the wedding market.

In such a competitive market, how much would SEO cost me to get me ranking on the top page for those keywords? Anyone out there on BHW want to offer me their services? Only will consider those with a proven track record of successful rankings.

Noone can tell you how much it would cost you exactly as it all depends on how strong your competition is. You should start building your link profile slowly and steady until you get to the top

To me it looks very easy to rank looking at the page one sites and there are only really 473 competing websites. As for cost, you could do it yourself, and you could get someone to do it cheap if you know what you are doing, as there would not be that much work involved. However if you do not know what you are doing someone is going to take advantage of that and try to get a good price off you for little work.

You are probably best off opening a few high quality photography blogs to link back to your main website, four high quality blogs alone would probably get you on page 2 - 3.
 
In my opinion you will have better success in ranking on Google Places for that keyword.
 
Perform a search:
https://www.google.com.au/#q=wedding+photographer+perth

And look at your competitors' sites. Most have .com.au domains, most are hosting from Australian IPs. The Google Places results dominate Page 1.

You need a local seo campaign. The competition is very low. If you know a bit of seo and follow guides on the forum, you could get Page 1 within a few weeks.
 
Thanks for all the replies. Some great advice already. To be honest, although I am capable of doing this myself, I would rather pay someone to perform the seo for me. As long as the price is moderate then I would be willing to go that route.
 
Check your competitors backlinks and see how much seo effort you have do before you can take the top spots.
You will never know the price before you give it a try.
Also remember that onsite seo a big factor of ranking in google, so get your onsite seo done before you start buidling links.

Assuming your on-page SEO is all good, just buy some blog posts and you should be there. It doesn't look like a tough keyword, at all.
 
Can't say it exactly. But, you have to spend some money until you achieve your goal. Just go to link building section there are so many service providers selling good quality links. Pick the best one by reviewing their thread. Good luck!
 
If you do it yourself, granted this is probably not the best option since you're asking lol.

You're looking at thousands of dollars realistically.
 
So I took a look at my competition using places scout and it seems that the top ranking websites according to that for the keywords "wedding photographer perth" are not great websites. I feel a bit more confident that I could rank quite well doing it myself.

I think what I will do is get my website up and running with the basic SEO that I know, then pay for a backlink building scheme and go from there.

Good plan do not go out spending a bunch of money to rank a local SEO site and just work on it manually firs building a tier 1 system
of web 2.0 sites with good articles and find some local websites to link into it. Later if you need some extra help you can check out the marketplace and find someone keen on local SEO.

Hey buddy, it always makes me cringe everytime I see somebody say that. Just be careful as to which "scheme" you pick because it could end up hurting your site more than it will help. You'll get a temporary boost in the SERPs but get the backlash later on and when it's for a business site like yours, it can hurt. Make sure that the scheme you pick is Google-proof for the most recent updates and the future ones. :)

Because you're a photographer and probably don't have access to IM tools, I did an analysis of the top 15 results in Google and here it is.

It shouldn't be that hard to get in the top 10 if your on-site is good and that you create good and consistent backlinks.

I also did a quick keyword research for you and you should think about adding pages on your site targeting:
wedding dresses perth - 2900 monthly and low competition
wedding cakes perth - 1000 monthly and low competition
photography courses perth - 880 monthly and low competition

When you say I should add pages with those keywords, does that increase the strength of my page in general? Or is it only to attract more visitors to my page who might be interested in my photography services?
