How much should be the article length ?

For money site articles, I prefer them to be around 1200 - 2500 words.
For Tier 1, I generally go with 600-800 words.

I personally feel it depends on the niche. One thing is that you don't want to bore the reader to death lol

10-20% longer than whats ranking well for that keyword already.
 
Before the August google update, I'd say over 1000 words for sure. Now, it's difficult to say because short articles seems to be ranking well if not better. I'd prob check the top 10 rankings for your kw niche and decide from there.
 
600-800 words would be the appropriate length, short and to the point.
 
Definitely 1000 words and over is going to perform better. Think about content quality as well. Ideally you want to be covering the topic fairly comprehensively and also targeting a keyword + several long-tails and thats a lot easier to do with 1000+ words. Of course it does depend on the keyword though, sometimes there might not be enough information available to merit an article of that length and sometimes it might need to be a lit longer.
 
700 words in my opinion. As you continue to grow your audience you can make longer articles.
