How much more productive are you with two monitors?

Stepping up your game to two monitors (either with two computers, or sharing one) seems like a common thing IMers want.

For the people who use two, are you more productive? Running auto-programs on one and working on the other? Or do you end up just ignoring one of them?

I'm thinking about going dual screens sometime soon. I say it definitely helps productivity and it's common to find a lot of workplaces who have dual monitors for their employees.

indespensible. once you double up you will never go back.

get at least 1920 pixels horizontal resolution on each monitor.
that way you can open up 2 windows on the same monitor with each having 960 pixels width.
so with 2 monitors you can pretty much have 4 windows open simultaneously at close to their full size. (most web pages are designed for 800 pixels width)
productivity goes wayyyy up.

actually i have 3 monitors right now because i like to have a central one.
black bar down the middle doesn't work for me :P

I use 2 monitors, but whenever I upgrade a display, productivity rarely increases. One thing does happen though, which is that once you upgrade you suddenly cant stand working on smaller screens.

I've got a nice setup here at home but I'm traveling around the world for the next 9 months and can't take my nice big screens with me - it'll be hard to adjust to a laptop screen, and all the harder for having bigger screens at home.

Got 3 monitors spaced out over the desk. Dig it. Has infinitely increased productivity.

Im running a triple monitor setup right now and it works SO well, I couldnt imagine trying to work with just one screen. In fact I think Im gonna add another one and run a quad setup. Have 2 22" in the middle and the 2 17" on each side. Heres what I got right now.

I smell a DELL CRT screenie to the right, ?? ;) 17" ?? :P

I could never go back to a single monitor now. It makes everything so much easier. I mostly just have skype and emails on my secondary monitor so I can easily carry on with my work without flicking back and forwards between tabs

That's exactly why having multi monitors makes things so much easier. It isn't so much about productivity, although making things quicker and easier can affect that for sure.

But really it makes multitasking so much simpler without having to tab back and forth between windows. Once you have multimonitors you'll wonder how you got along without them.

I'm not sure I would get used to this, I guess I could even be less productive

I have 2 monitor and a labtop and no, they are not really useful. I just use my labtop most of the time. All my work is on here lol. I do not find benefit much.

Well, whenever I work on 2 computers, I always end up using the wrong mouse for the wrong computer. Any ideas to stop this?
lol , no one is talking here about using 2 pcs running at the same time, most ppl are talking about having dual screens, meaning you make your screen bigger all running under a fast computer, atleast 4gb recommended for better performance.

Synergy (free open source) or Maxivista (commercial).

I'll admit, I did not read the whole thread.

But here is my summary. Once you go to dual-screens, you're never going to go back. Ever.

Does productivity increase? Hmm, not really sure, but you sure as hell like 'working' a lot more all of a sudden, these screens are awesome to have.

Nothing to make your mind up on, just do it!

Some people don't like it (they prefer one big ass wide monitor instead) but I love it. I'm way more productive with it.

Well jesus I just bought a nice ass 24" monitor and it devours the little space I have on my desk.

There's no way I can fit even two 17" monitors on my desk :(

I just route my PC to my TV with an HDMI cable.

It's a win-win because it keeps me from watching TV while I'm working.
