OK, I know its been a while and I am not trying to rehash anything.... BUT... how long is this dancing supposed to go on!?!?! We all know that about 2 to 3 weeks ago all this "unnatural linking" BS and link network killing stuff began but my sites have been bouncing like crazy since then.

I have new sites ranking in the top 3 and older sites that dropped to the second page! I wouldn't even mind if the dust had already settled but shit is still going crazy. I don't want to go nuts and change up linking strategies until I see where my site settles in the serps.

EXAMPLE 1 - every 2 mins this site jumps from 11 to 48, so on and so fourth! WTF.

I have other sites that are genuinely informative and well liked by visitors, shown by +1s, likes and retweets being replaced by 1 page MNSs.

I know that know one knows the answer to this but to day was my lowest earning day in well over a year, no I'm not going to go hungry, but it still sucks!

I feel your pain kegnum. My homepage targets 2 keywords. 1 of them dances from 40-90, the other dances from 100-200. Both dropped on March 23rd. Still not back. :( Makes me sad.

Some of my inner pages are ranking, but I feel like I should be getting way more traffic with the content I have published.

Sucks man, and every time I buy backlinks for this site, I feel like I am just throwing away money on it..

What I started doing is started working on new websites, and if this original one comes back, great. If not, then damn, waste of 4 months.

One of mine has been jumping for 4 months, even though my activities have remained consistent.

Makes it hard to work out what is working and what isn't! Just need to keep at it :)

well i for one have just withdrawn 10K out of a savings account and am going to be investing in 2 types of sites. One for profit and one to embarrass Google. I am going to rank more and more sites, less linking more domain building. I'm also going to build sites that rank, difference will be that the images will make Google look like shite. Yes I know this is a waste of time, yes i know this a marketing forum... I will still get some satisfaction of seeing a site ranking in the top 3 that has a huge image that says "Use bing because Google brought you here" on a page that is ranking with terribly spun content.

I seriously think that Google should not be running 90% of all search traffic... It's time for a change and no one is going to change things but the people. All it takes is a simple change in the settings... homepage = http://bing.com....

Too bad for us, all we can do now is just to think of new ways to get us back to what we are up to.

I too feel your frustration. Seem's that it's only the top 2 results who aren't effected by all this dancing. Just have to keep doing what we've been doing: Keep building out content and links.

My site has been ranking lower since March 3rd, lost around ~20-30 first page rankings on Google. About 5 days after that I gained ~20-30 first page rankings in Bing. Traffic is not even close to making what Google provided, but kind of a weird coincidence.

I've never heard anyone mention this before, but sometimes I wonder if the "dance" isn't Google testing your bounce rate. They put you at #2 for a while, sample your bounce rate, then put someone else up and sample their bounce rate. Whoever has the lowest bounce rate wins.

Possible? Do you have Google Analytics installed?

The dance serves several testing purposes. One of them is fighting paid text links. Google assumes that if a webmaster bought links and then lose some ranking, he/she will remove them... In most cases they are right and this is how webmasters act.

There probably are some more testing reasons for the dance.
