Internal links are great. But at a certain point (at about 100), links on a page don't pass as much value. And if you think 100 sounds like a lot of links, keep in mind that this includes ALL internal and external links.

A general rule of thumb is to add 4 internal links for a page.
But you have many - I am saying this because, in older days, Google only depended on spider bots for crawling - that limits only 100 links in a page. if it exceeds, it stops crawling.
But now, Google getting smarter - so if you have number of links in a page focusing on content powered and user centered, it is fine adding that much links.
But, having 5 to 6 links in a page, all pointing to a high pressure sales page, then it will be spammy.
So add value to the users, it will help you at the end.
Simply, add internal links where they make sense, dont force it either.

Interlinking is a must important for getting high traffic. And if you do in proper manner then it is fully safe for website.

What you are doing yourself you can manage: so try to be natural and have natural amout of links. But you can't control others they can "do you a favor" and place much more links without notifying you and without your permission.
So just do your best for your part and do not spend so much time for thinking about that.

i dont think wikipedia is a good use case. they have authority and their on-site model should not be followed. just my 2 cents

It's based on your needs. But it should link to the correct page that matches the "Anchor Text". We recommend a maximum of 3 to 7 links per 2k words. All should be necessary.
It also helps for reducing the bounce rate.
