As it says in the title, I have been offered a link from CNN and another big site. They are legit and say it is a do-follow link. How much effect will this have on my site?

It will be minor - paying big money for those kinds of links is fine if you have a huge budget and are doing a lot of other SEO but those kinds of links will add authority as opposed to a direct quick SEO effect.

How much is the link?

How much is the link?
Would you suggest buying lots of lower authority sites? The link is £200

Why not split that money and buy from other websites? I see people sell here do fallow from up to 90 DA for 10 USD , also you can buy some diversity as well.

Some people just buy them to show " featured in CNN "

But this is other thing.

I think that's a fair price imo, most editorial links by link sellers here cost around $150-200 in the DA40-50 range.

Metrics don't really matter, links do.

The social proof of being featured in CNN is $ too.

I would get it.

The price you have mentioned is just right. However, it would be way smarter to spend that amount on things that are more profitable.

What about a link from WikiPedia? I've been thinking of getting one for my site for a while now.

Hype thing only OP, for that much money you can buy homepage link with much more value.

It's a fair market price for CNN link. You are unlikely to get a link on that site for anything less - i would even question if this is legitimate because it looks to cheap..

And don't go by "DA" as measures of what sites you should buy links on. These are just MOZ metrics, and nothing like what Google uses to sort URLs. The name CNN, and BBC/New York Times/Guardian etc., stand head and shoulders above the competition offering links on DA90-94 sites (especially one's you are paying $10 for lol). As long as the article is relevant to your niche, you should be good.

Imo and in my experience, links from big sites like cnn does increase your site's authority - that's for sure. If you are able to get more than 1 cnn link, that would have better effect on your site's authority, but if just for a single link, and if it is not a targeted link, you will need more than 1 link to have an effect on your site, so if you have a big budget, by all mean go for it.
So if that is just a general link, your site authority will increase - but since it may not have your keyword/anchor text, then it will not immediately add a bonus to your SERP - but your SERP ranking will surely and gradually increase though, but not immediately, as site authority goes up, so does your SERP ranking.
