How Much Does Site Speed Really Matter for SEO in 2025?

I keep noticing a lot of mixed opinions about site speed and SEO. Some say that shaving off even half a second can move rankings, while others argue it’s more about user experience than direct ranking power.

For example, one of my sites loads in around 3–3.5 seconds, and it’s ranking fine in a mid-level niche. On the other hand, I’ve also seen competitors with faster sites (under 2s) holding stronger positions even with weaker content.

So, my questions to the community are:
  • In your own experience, have you noticed faster-loading sites ranking noticeably better?
  • Is Google really prioritizing speed as a ranking factor in 2025, or is it still just a small piece of the puzzle compared to links/content?
  • Do you think optimizing for Core Web Vitals is worth the extra time and money, or only critical for big competitive niches?
Curious to hear real-world feedback from others who are testing this.

Site speed is important but not as much as user experience. User experience is much more important factor.
 
Site speed is important part of technical seo you need to improve it for user experience and for google also.
 
speed’s a tiebreaker, not the crown. g cares more about content + links. i’ve ranked 4s load sites fine when authority strong. but when two pages near equal, faster one usually edges.

For me, Core Web Vitals were worth focusing on only in a very competitive niche. On smaller projects, the ROI wasn’t big enough to justify spending too much time or money on shaving milliseconds. I’d say get your site reasonably fast, then put 90% of effort into content + authority building.

In my experience, site speed helps a bit, but strong content and links matter more for ranking.
 
the logic you can match with how people are now, slow or fast? actually, I want to mean the world is moving fast means competitive, so your site speed matters a lot, its also a critical SEO factor. you will lose the patience of the user even with valuable content if the site speed is low. So, valuable content, UI/UX, site speed, etc. all matters
 
Yes, It's a part of technical SEO and related to on page SEO as well.

Speed helps, mostly by improving user experience and engagement not a magic bullet for rankings. In tough niches, every millisecond counts, but for many sites, content and backlinks still drive the bulk of SEO. Focus on speed if it makes sense for your audience and competition.
 
It is a very important ranking factor. Once I took service from an expert to improve traffic on my affiliate blog. First thing , he suggested me was to improve website speed.
 
This one is not true, Speed is a factor / one of the signals google use to rank sites, but not with weaker content, if people find the content not useful the bounce rate will increase, it will drop in ranking. it's just a matter of time.
