how much does proxy location really matter?

I see mixed opinions about proxy location and whether it needs to match account profiles exactly. Some say country-level matching is enough, others insist city or ISP matters a lot. From real usage, I’m trying to understand where the line is between being safe and over-optimizing things unnecessarily.

This depends on your usage and do the websites needs you to be in the same state/city?

If I'm correct bandwidth — low latency — matters more than physical location. If proxy works well and has decent speed it'll serve you just fine.

Agreed. Ukrainian IPv6 proxies for example might be good enough for solving ReCaptchas but not for serious stuff.

Speed matters but the location as well. I am blocking traffic to my websites from certain countries known for spam. Traffic from a i.e. NG/UA IP won't post on a contact form or register an account on my sites.

I’ve seen similar mixed opinions too, and from what I understand, country-level matching usually covers most basic checks, while city/ISP-level matching becomes more relevant only for high-risk or sensitive platforms. I’m curious from real-world testing—have you noticed any measurable differences in account stability when matching ISP versus just geo-location?

Depends on dns as well and especially how serious your target website is

it depends on the platform and what you're doing. for social media account management, country-level matching is usually enough for most platforms. facebook and instagram don't really care if you're logging in from a different city within the same country. but for things like google local SEO or local business listings, city-level accuracy matters a lot because google cross-references ip location with the business address and search intent.

for e-commerce platforms like amazon, the state or region matters more because shipping, tax, and account verification are tied to specific locations. the ISP/ASN matters more than the exact city in most cases - an ip from a real ISP like Verizon in the wrong city is still way better than a datacenter ip in the perfect city. don't over-optimize location unless the platform specifically enforces geo restrictions at the city level.

From my experience, country matching is usually enough for most platforms.

City matching can sometimes help, but it's rarely required. ISP matching is usually overkill.

In many cases IP reputation, device fingerprint and normal behavior matter more than matching the exact location.

Country matching is usually enough for most cases. City or ASN targeting is only required in specific situations, for example when you need to target ads that appear only in a specific city or on a particular ASN.

For your case country matching should be sufficient. Users often access their accounts from different networks such as desktop (ISP) or mobile(LTE), so the ASN can change. They may also log in while traveling, which can change the city. This is normal behavior and usually does not cause issues.

From what I’ve seen, matching the country is usually enough in most cases. Some people go as far as matching city or ISP, but that can be a bit overkill depending on what you’re doing. Good IP quality and consistency tends to matter more in practice.

From my experience, country-level matching is usually enough. City or ISP matching can help in some sensitive cases, but consistency matters more than perfect geo accuracy. Sudden location changes tend to raise more flags than being in the “wrong” city.

Platforms mainly look for consistency. If an account always logs in from the same country and the behaviour looks normal, it usually doesn’t matter if the city changes.
