A friend of mine is looking for a site that is basically an ''online presence'' simply put, basic, easy for the older generation and easy to navigate.

Are these expensive to get designed??

I can code but fall way short of even being able to make a website.

Thanks!

It's a horrible site, but I agree it is simple for the "older generation". On Wordpress you could find a nice looking but still easy to navigate and add you content for a max of $200. This site is pictures and bullet points, it's not exactly a 20,000 unique content authority site so I definitely don't see it being very expensive.

The price you pay is going to directly get you what you pay for. If you spend more you will have more opportunity to work with the designer to customize the design, move things around and change as it is developed. If you pay a super low flat rate expect to get what you asked for and nothing more. In my experience paying a little more for a custom designed website will pay off as you can have more say in the finished product and end up with something above mediocre.

If you're looking for someone to do that job then post a thread in "Hire A Freelancer" section.
Peace!

I would charge $300 for what that site has... BUT... mine would look much nicer...

That is a really "old" style.. and is very basic... If you want something like that, maybe $200-$250, but I would not want to put my name on a website that simple.. Rather pay another $50-$100 to make yourself look good.

There is a guy on fiverr who builds simple sites...never used him, but thought of using him for orm at some point

LOL. Thats a horrible site. Try Responsive web design websites. They're a treat for the eyes and easy on the usability. If you need help building one, contact me on skype.

The site design looks horrid. You could probably pay a website designer to throw that together in a couple hours. Charge $20-$25/hr.

Hehe that site is very old school design :)

You can easily hire someone to build you a new site on that level for around $250 - $350 on a freelance site. Probably many freelancers here would be willing.

Of course you could easily install WP or Joomla on your hosting account and purchase a great looking theme that can do the job just fine, even better IMO. Just hire someone for logo and some graphics is required and slap it on.

I don't know, but this site look ok to me and navigation is ok too. Maybe I am that old generation lol

This is not design, this is just pure (X)HTML+CSS. Do it for free by using a CSS template (if you got some related skills) or paying someone up to $50 for setting it up for you.

it seems site was designed by a 1st year grad student - if you have some html knowledge head to theme Forrest and you can buy a pro design for like $30. i might even do it for free if you ask me nicely:)

well recently i bought some niches sites from hunteronhunt.com contact their admin and tell him about your site and he will proviide you with quote their services are also very cheap.

I agree. You can probably just get a free template and set this up with little effort. You can use a free program like Kompozer, which can be buggy and no longer has support, but still can be effective as a WYSIWYG editor for a basic CSS template. Hopefully you have some better photography than in the example. If all your friend needs is an online presence then I wouldn't go the wordpress route if they don't plan on doing consistent updates.

One more thought is that you might want to set this up on blogger. It is good for small businesses that just want a simple website. They also won't have to worry about paying for hosting and can attach their own domain. I think blogger gives you up to 10 static pages and there are plenty of themes to choose from.

I'm a freelance web designer and could set you up with something similar for $300-600 depending on how many pages you need. I can't post a link here yet, but if you google unola web design, it should be the first link.
